I like winning. Honestly didn't think we had a great chance tonight with a rookie starting in goal, no Pronger, and the Pens opening a new building. Both teams were a little off at points and we ended up with the win, I'll take the 2 points whenever I can get them.

Yes, lighten up.

If Fleury hadn't made a ridiculous save on Carter in the finals minutes, this wouldn't even be a discussion right now.

The man is a 40-goal scorer. You don't trade them just because you don't like them.

Can we please ****ing split Richards and Carter?

I love Lavi, but this is just so retarded. Carter looks like a lost puppy on the wing and Richards was below-par for long periods (although in typical Richards fashion, he stepped it up when it mattered).

JVR was a monster, his shot led to the rebound that led to the penalty that got our first goal and then obviously the rebound on another one of his cannons led to Betts' goal. That thing is so freaking heavy.

Played like ass defensively, but it's still early days so you can't really freak out plus we were missing our best guy.

Thing is, i don't want to split Either of the other two lines to fit in carter. Briere looks like the play-off briere at centre, and well giroux won the game for us.

Yeah Richards and Carter don't mesh....1st game but both of them were def off overall...going to need them to step it up against these better teams. Richards will be ok..Carter doesn't want to play wing it seems..

Its Carter....the guy is the most overrated, one-dimensional hockey player ever.....Please trade this ****er this year.

He causes too many on-ice chemistry issues with this group of forwards. It was fine when you had guys here like Upshall, Umberger, Lupul, Knuble that complemented him, we dont have that anymore. Get value for him while you can.

We really do need to split Carter and Richards up. We need to let them both do their things, and it seems like they are cramping each others style.

But it is only the 1st game.

They're horrible together. And I hate to see Carcillo there too.

Carter has no patience with the puck whatsoever. He gets it on his stick and it's going towards the net in the next split second.

Carcillo can't keep up with them.

And Richards keeps trying to feed either one and it's just not working worth a damn.

Zherdev-Richards-Giroux
JVR-Carter-Carcillo

Zherdev may not be a natural LW, but Carter is no winger.

A team only opens their building once...and we went in and beat them when they did it.

Ultimate win

If you compared Carter's to a missile (without the accuracy), I'd say JVR's is a cannon, it just explodes off the goalie.

Put Richards with JVR and just watch the goals fly in. I know I'm going homer here, but I honestly thought JVR was probably our best forward.

Jesus, there is a lot of silly Carter hatred. First, you are going to see him start taking a great deal more faceoffs since he's the only player we have that isn't routinely made to look like a fool at the dot.

Second, if you don't like Carter, I'd hate to see what you have to say about Briere and Zherdev... NO ONE on this team is a superstar (outside of Shelley) and, therefore, everyone has at least one hole in their game. Richards sucks at faceoffs, Briere lacks size, Zherdev has defensive lapses, etc.

And if you think that Carter is overpaid, your problem isn't with him, it's with Homer.

Id actually really love to see carter play with on a line that giroux centers. I think giroux could really get carter excited on the offensive end. Right now he doesnt even look intrested. I wonder how much those injuries have affected him.

I agree with this as well. Many fans are delusional about his defensive capabilities. And he literally has an arsenal of like 2 shots, many of which end up on the glass.

Nice way to start the season, even if there's lots of room for improvement. A win in Pittsburgh isn't too shabby.

Bobrovsky was awesome. I hope we don't run him into the ground, but so far he looks like a keeper...

Anyway, after that there's not really anyone that stands out. I saw that some of you were calling for Richards to improve, and while he can certainly do that, I thought he had a decent game. His play on the pk was darn good. Him and Carter should be split up though.

Giroux can be so great, he needs to control the game more often though. His line is too easily pinned down in their own zone.

Not to mention the fact that we'd be depending on Homer to get proper value for Carter if he did decide to trade him. Who here has confidence in that happening? Shooter would likely ship him out for a #6 defenseman making $5M per year with 4 years left on his contract.
