Yes Carter is a forward who scores goals. But we can't trade him for a defenseman because we have too many good defensemen. We can't trade him for a young goalie because we already have one. We are then left with trading him for a forward who can score goals. I see the logic in that; you obviously don't!

I have hated this guy for almost two years now, so my hate certainly isnt based on one game.

Absolutely not. His best season was with Lupul/Hartnell, two guys who dont carry the puck much, play well against the boards and get garbage goals. Before that it was with Umberger/Knuble.

He is a puck hog and needs to carry the puck all the time to be successful....hence why he and Richie dont work together.

Him and Briere were not as good together as the numbers might have suggested. Briere is best at center, and with guys like Prospal/Giroux/Leino....guys that can play the give and go game.

Are people really questioning why people on here are not happy with our play tonight? We got outplayed for most of the game.

What I would try next game:

Leino-Richards-Briere
Hartnell-Carter-Carcillo (Carter always plays best with grinders)
JVR-Giroux-Zherdev

or put Hartnell-Carter-Briere back together. line was pretty good last year

Well, I am still not at all convinced Giroux is a C and we all know Briere blows defensively.

I mean really, if you go Richie/Briere/Giroux at C, we will be in a world of hurt from a number of angles.

It still amazes me that Carter would have had 35 goals last year if not for injury and that people want to deal him.

I mean, this guy played with a piano and a midget and would have been top-10 in the league in goals if not for getting hurt.

What the **** more do people want, Maurice Richard?

EDIT: I should add that these are the same people who probably wanted to deal Richards in 2007.

I haven't read through the whole topic, but are people actually complaining about Carter?

Pathetic.

Top 9 should look like this:

Carcillo--Richards--JVR
Hartnell--Carter--Briere
Leino--Giroux--Zherdev

or

Carcillo--Richards--Briere
Hartnell--Carter--Leino
JVR--Giroux--Zherdev

Something like that. I think part of the problem is that they are so set on keeping the Hartnell-Briere-Leino line together, and the leftovers just don't go all that well together.

We were outplayed for like one period in the season opener. Nothing to get up-in-arms about.

The beginning of the season rarely says anything about a team.

...Lupul is a floating sniper. So that description of him doesn't make any sense.

Maybe so, doesn't mean he's terrible... 79 goals in two seasons speaks for itself.

That statement doesn't even make sense. What about their play was not good? If Hartnell had gotten his head out of his ass, that line would have put up really strong numbers (and Briere had a quite good season at even strength... his point drop came from lack of PP scoring).

Just because you've hated a guy for a while, doesn't mean it's rational hate and lacking in bias.

If they want to stick with this concept of trying ot really have 3 scoring lines, without making a trade, they need to let Maroon come up at some point and see if he can do it or not. However he also needs to earn it by playing well on the farm and getting out of the dog house. If he does not, then thats on him. For 550k i would have picke dup Kennedy when he was on waivers. That seemed like a no risk move.

New home, first goal... by a Flyer. Wasp sting to the Penguins and their fans.

Oh yeah, and Gary Bettman.

Can we also go over Meszaros' "roughing" penalty on Crosby?

The CW seems to be that Crosby doesn't dive anymore, but man, what a little *****. Gets tapped in the face and immediately goes down.

Carter took 4 faceoffs tonight. That might be the fewest he takes all season moving forward. Certainly the fewest against non-scrub teams.

If Giroux can feed the puck to Zherdev, he'll work out fine at C. His defense was much improved by the playoffs last year, though he'll never be a Selke candidate. He and Briere do well when they can use finesse. Against the grinder teams they obviously struggle at times defensively.

I do agree that Carter and Richards is likely not ideal, though I wouldn't start going crazy about lines until about the 5th game.

I was hoping (well, not really since Homer ****ed up the offseason before the first day of Free Agency began) that the team would be willing to make some tough decisions, sign a 40ish point two-way 3rd line C, and trade for another winger to keep Carcillo on the 4th line where he is very effective.

Going another season with 1 player playing out of position at all times and at least one line hampered by having a non-offensive player alongside offensively gifted players is obviously not ideal.

The team is still very solid but I feel that Lavi is going to often be tweaking lines... a job made much more difficult if Briere's line continues to make themselves indispensable. Because then you really don't have many options when tweaking the 1st and 3rd lines.

Someone's going to get hurt, probably Briere it's usually him, and having too many centers will all of a sudden come in handy. I'm in the "I think Giroux is a RW" came as well.

Well, it isn't so much that "they" are set on it. It's more likely that Briere's line have earned the right to play together and get quality minutes. Hartnell was told by the team that he should pack his bags before the playoffs last year. His line's accomplishments axed those plans, and his trade value was largely reclaimed after the postseason. The team certainly expects him to continue to contribute at or near that level and, with tonight's game, I think that once Briere's line gets in a groove, he'll be just fine.

The Carter-Richards line didn't do much offensively but they shut down Crosby.
