I haven't done a lot of reading on this, but why is it that Boston is so heavily favored to win the Northeast, or really be anything more special than they were last year?

Seguin + Horton = better offense.

Seguin+Horton= Marginally better offense than the half season the team had with Savard last season.

If Savard returns than they will probably finish first. Otherwise I think they're 2nd in the division.

Lucic and Savard were both injured for big chunks of last season. Plus they added Seguin and Horton.

They traded Wideman, but he didn't play very well last year.

As long as they are less injured this year and they get solid goaltending from either Rask or Thomas they should be able to win the division.

“We can talk as much as we want – new leadership, new guys,” Vanek said. “But I think the guys that have been here, myself included, for a long time need to step up and do more. I’ve said it before. If we don’t make it far, it’s on myself, it’s on us. You can’t just bring in new guys and think they’re going to fix things.”
Quote:
KEYS TO THE SEASON:

• Better production from their top forwards. Vanek’s paid $6.4 million to score around 40 goals, not 28. Pominville earned a $5.5 million contract after scoring 30 goals and 80 points, not 20 goals and 60 points.

• Myers’ progression without Tallinder. No one really thinks Myers will experience much of a sophomore slump. But he’s never played beside anyone other than Tallinder. Other than Miller, Myers is the Sabres’ greatest asset. He has to produce.

• Lalime’s play. The Sabres have a rough schedule featuring 22 sets of back-to-back games. Lalime should get some regular action. He has to win more. Period.

Hockeycentral 2010-11 NHL predictions

http://www.sportsnet.ca/hockey/2010/...l_predictions/

P.S. I never heard of him but Rob Faulds thinks Sabres will win division and make it to ECF; Myers will win Norris and Miller will win Vezina...
