I doubt this would show up unless you were looking at it specifically... and generally you don't worry about the medical status of players you've had in house... since, theoretically, you know their medical situation.

This whole situation is FAIL.

BTW, I would assume Holmgren is holding his tongue just because he doesn't want to create a problem as of now... but I have to think they could absolutely void the contract if Leighton is admitting he knowingly failed to report an injury to the club.

Well, this is a professional sports organization. I'm not sure, but I assume that a physical is more than "open your mouth and say 'aaah.'"

A physical is a physical... you can do a medical check on a shoulder, back, whatever if you want... but you have to be looking for something (they do it with pitchers all the time).

You shouldn't be happy about further evidence of the disaster that is our front office.

I completely agree with the shadyness of him not getting this surgery once in flared up in the offseason. But Homer payed him and im pretty sure hes quoted as to saying he knew it happened sometime in the summer. Im not sure if all the blame can be put on Leighton for that. But the harshness that im speaking of is how everyone would be ?...happier? with him gone. When its pretty much guaranteed if we didnt pick him up last year we would not have been in the playoffs at all. Leighton had the starting position this season over Boucher for a reason. For anyone to want Boucher to be a starter or backup over Leighton just doesnt make sense to me.

True, but forcing this club to find an answer other than Leighton can't be a bad thing....

It'd be interesting if someone could look this up in the CBA. This was Leighton's chance to get paid, so I don't play Leighton the person for doing what he had to do, but it's even more reason to get out from Leighton the player.

I would be absolutely shocked if a team doesn't have recourse if a player knowingly doesn't disclose a medical issue like a bum back.

If the CBA lacks such a clause, then the owners *ed up on that front, too.

When conscious, Pavelec >>>>>> Leighton/Boucher.

In all seriousness, though, wtf happened?!

According to TSN he has regained consciousness, but has since been taken to the hospital for evaluation.

I don't know that that's "fine." There has to be a pretty bad reason for a young professional athlete to pass out in the middle of the ice like that....

So we paid an injured Michael "it is what it is" Leighton 1.55M to be our starter prior July 1, without getting a physical exam. When we could have signed ANY other goalie not named Nittymaki or Nabokov for less money. Michael Leighton then "reaggrivates" an injury he sustained in the playoffs (but didn't say anything about) and will miss 1 week, which turns into 1 month, which then turns into 2 months, and we still don't know if he will need rehab time or stay in the minors for conditioning after that.

Amazing job. Can't wait for next offseason.

If Bob says up for more than 9 games or 30 days doesn't he have to go through waivers to be sent to the AHL?

No, because he's on an entry-level contract.

We can see from the Pronger deal with Anaheim, when Sbisa was injured they technically could have canceled the deal. Maybe there are some parallels to canceling contracts.

Either way this is not a good way to start a relationship with the team, but with the Flyers' loyalty to goalies, then maybe Leightion just doesn't care.

Well so much for signing Leighton out of loyalty given Leighton's lack of integrity.....if the organization from a pure business decision doesn't seek recourse if they indeed have a case regarding injury disclosure well they will just be plain tards.....but the Gagne, Shelley and Walker decisions in addition to this screw up don't give me a lot of confidence...

Not until he plays 60 games (I am assuming dressing as Backup does not count).
