Cam Fowler Discussion: (What's Best? Rookie Wall? Now What?)

Hey guys. After all the "insight" I've read on this site about Fowler being soft and as a result not ready for the NHL, I found the opposite to be true. Fowler was excellent from start to finish in the game last night even if it wasn't the most competitive game of the season. For most of the game, he seemed to be the best player on the ice for the Ducks. I was blown away by his poise with the puck in the offensive zone as well as in the defensive zone. So my question to the Duck fans is exactly what is in the title. Is Fowler sticking with the team or is he eventually going back to juniors or an AHL affiliate?

I have a feeling he's going to make a lot of teams regret letting him slide all the way to Anaheim's pick.

The best two defenseman in the game last night were our two youngest that played in Mikkelson and Fowler. It has not been the Ducks' organization's M.O. to keep a young prospect up, but with Fowler they may literally have no choice because he was the best defenseman on the ice last night IMO. If he plays like that for 8 more games then I think he will stay.

If he keeps playing the way he has been, he'll stick. While it's not the Ducks MO to play players who were just drafted, it's also not Carlyle's MO to praise rookies and he's had nothing but praise for Fowler, so this situation seems unique.

Some people think he needs to spend a year in juniors to bulk up, but the game he plays doesn't really demand being 215lbs. He doesn't get hit often due to his insane skating and awareness and when he initiates physically he does just enough to separate the player from the puck and take it from him.

The way he's playing right now, I think he'd learn a hell of a lot more playing in the NHL rather than playing in Juniors.

Nice post man thx.

Ya Fowler has been, and will continue to be a bright spot in our up coming struggles of our team finding its way. The plan with Fowler was to have him play around the 9 first games then send him down allowing Lydman to replace him.

Only thing is nobody expected this guy to be so good so far. We've givin him tons of ice time to try to force some 18 yr old mistakes, but he refuses to do so.

Now with Sutton out, and Sbisa not showing the team he's ready, Cam Fowler is here to stay for about 15 years

As been said before he should stick around this season.

Only way he doesn't stay up is if the team don't want to waste a year of his contract this year, but IMO that would be silly to not let him stay in the NHL, he's pretty close to NHL ready.

If he plays like he did last night, he's a lock to stay with the team

I would say yes since he is probably our #1 guy dman!

Everyone else sans Mikk looked old, slow and uninterested.

This year may suck but at least I should be able to watch Cam play and develop.

If he plays like he did against Detroit he won't have to worry about getting sent to juniors. But our #1 this season? Not so much, unless you are totally biased against Visnovsky.

Maybe. But in general, a few have been mentioning Fowler as our #1 since start of training camp. I'd be very very happy if he can play a top 4 role throughout the season. With the way he played tonight it wouln't surprise if he's our 2nd best defenseman this year though.

Based on last night he is our #1 defensemen, even if he didn't get as many minutes. Visnovsky looked awful.

No official decision will be made until he gets in 9 games...but it looks like he is staying in the NHL.

If he sticks with the team, I'm getting a Fowler third jersey

I'd wait until he gets a number change, which I'm assuming he will.

Thats true. He should have a lower number after the 9th game.

He was one of our only bright spots last night, and a bright spot it was; he was our best defenseman and maybe even player.

Yeah I'm not ordering it till I have some more money in my PayPal, which will be around late November

Maybe he should take 66 just to piss off the HFBoards?

So 54 is the magic number for prospects now? Let's rotate the number down in Syracuse and by the end of the year we can call up a team of allstars.

Problem is while that's a good sign ... it's also a very bad sign.

Yep, but based on that Mikkelson is also our #2 lol.

Fowler - Mikkelson
Brookbank - Mara
Visnovsky - Sbisa

that should be our line up tonight IMO.

Let's just roll:

Fowler-Mikkelson
Sbisa-Clark
Newton-Mitera

and see what happens.

This is true.

I don't know. I'm just not sold on Visnovsky as a #1. I'd actually be more comfortable with Fowler playing those extra minutes as crazy as it sounds.

It's going to be interesting to see how things change after around 30 games if he's still up. Obviously, teams are going to target him in his first 9 games. They will even target Fowler throughout the first 30 games or so.

But what i'm talking about is not just normal targeting on Fowler for physical punishment. Once it becomes clear just how much Fowler is adding to the D, teams are going to go beyond just playing a little more physical against Fowler and are going to really take it to the kid. Then we'll see what he's made of. I can't wait.
