I liked the play of the defense...Girardi and MDZ were very good, and Sauer looked solid. The 2nd and 3rd lines looked very good also.

I know for a fact that I won't be disappointed. I've been following Steps road to this day religiously.

No one here is saying he is Messier. I'm saying he has a complete game, and the last player that we had who had a complete game was Messier.

Let's simmer down.

Truly. Ovechkin vs. Messier, yes. Stepan? No way.

These comparisons are horrible. Ovechkin is a different player, and Messier is a different player.

Stepan being compared to Jagr? That's a pretty bad comparison. Totally different styles.

I don't know if you guys are comparing stats, cause I'm not. I'm comparing styles; his complete style.

All 4 lines looked solid tonight. Question though is who sits when Drury and Prospal come back? Going to be interesting.

Yes sir! Just made a similar point in another thread. Avery can score 40-50 points.

After a joyous win can we just end the arguments and have a nice discussion.....just agree to disagree on this one

I'm guessing it was the "like this" in your original post that misled some.

Does Stepan have Messier's mean streak? And I don't mean a mere willingness to be physical. Messier was truly vicious when he felt occasion warranted it, and the fear he could induce definitely helped him - and others - put up numbers.

There was everything to like about Stepan's game tonight, but that facet of Messier's game, I didn't see that.

Step's can get very rowdy. It's one game.

Messier did something that is almost impossible. He brought a cup to a city that is very difficult to play in. He guaranteed a victory and recorded a hat trick in the same game. You're misunderstanding me.

I'm comparing the Leadership, defensive side of the game, and scoring abilities as his complete game. The last player to have all of it and provided it consistently is Messier. This is all I'm saying. I am not saying he will achieve what Mark did. Not even close.

One thing I do know is that Steps will be the captain of this team in a few years, and a legit one at that. Mark my words. You can call me out if I'm wrong.

Cheers! Have a beer and enjoy the win everyone! What a great night!

Home from the game, a few thoughts:

Stepan is filthy, I regret not throwing my hat being six rows from the ice...in my defense I thought Fedtenko buried that. I was praying for four but he came about an inch wide, sad.

Avery is a player.

I hate Eminger.

Got two cans of beer and popcorn thrown at me, not bad. And I wasn't doing anything but talking to my girlfriend and standing and clapping when the Rangers scored.

ALSO a girl right in front of us got hit in the head with a puck during warm ups...blood everywhere, it got me pumped for some hockey lol.

1-0 feels good.

Oh so you didn't get to enjoy the wonderful Buffalo broadcast, lucky you.

They messed up soo many players.

Christensen was Fedotenko
Anisimov was Rozival
Gaborik was Dubinsky
Lundqvist was Lund-something, dunno wtf it was.

What's nice about this is that every season we have to wait for what feels like forever before we get one, if we get one. I mean, how many hattys have we had in recent seasons? Not a lot.

This is a positive change, for the season, already.

Just noticed MDZ was a +3 tonight. Nice way to start off considering he was a -475 last year or something like that. Love his end to end rushes

also played 23 minutes

I know it's only one game, but I have to say I really enjoyed the way the team looked. Maybe it's early, maybe it's just the beginning, but I feel we looked quicker, more patient with the puck, better offensively, etc.

But, knowing this team, maybe we caught a Buffalo squad on the back end of a B2B.

Stepan's sister...
