I didn't see the game but statistically, it appears to have been pretty awful.
I was there. He was playing pretty dirty and could have been called for a couple more. I could see him driving a coach crazy. He only had one good scoring chance, other than that was kind of invisible. He was pretty good along the boards and in the corner especialy for how skinny he looks. I also noticed during warm up he mostly just stick handled around by himself, not much interaction with his teamates.

Thanks to all of you for the updates!

I'm glad he's back in Oshawa. I hope to see him live a few times this season - thanks for the update. deHaan has hockey smarts and is smooth out there but his overall game is very raw and he's still physically immature.

He's a really skinny kid, even thinner than Trivino was when he was drafted. Let's hope he matures both physically and mentally over the next 2-3 years. I wouldn't expect anything from Kabanov before that time - and that assumes no further bumps in the road.

Those 3 dominated the ice every shift. You can`t base a long term opinion on 1 game but Ullstrom could be a beast with 2nd line future upside. We will see more in the future.
Haley and Figren had good games as well as Kohn.
Marcinko played better and used his body a little.
Hisey is a speed demon with hands and creativity.

I have read in another thread that Kirill Kabanov has returned to Russia for personal reasons according to a Halifax announcer John Moore.

I had posted elsewhere that Haley probably had the best game of his career.

"I have to say that Micheal Haley played one of his best games as a Soundtiger tonight. Forget the fact that he scored the opening goal, he was excellent on the forecheck, blocked a ton of shots and forcing that turnover that led to Figren’s goal was a thing of beauty. I really hope Haley has a breakout season this year."

The Macinko/Haley/Figren line was amazing last night.

I will say that Reese had a terrible game last night. Hamonic wasn't very good either. But I'm sure he'll bounce back.

Man, I get a really bad feeling about this kid. Everytime I read about him something weird is going on. What did he play ? One game for Moncton ?

great to hear about JJ MM and Ullstrom. It's so hard to tell anything by a box score.

I would love to see the Islanders just put all rookies in the minors after their last year of junior or after college and learn the AHL game before they play in the NHL. It really bothers me. Even with Tavares although it's clear he's an exception - there ARE exceptions.

I watched the Marlies and Rochester the other day and it's unreal the difference in play between a 20-21 year old and a veteran player.
Nazem Kadri was awful. Hardly played, got beat several times in key moments, unrelaible out there. Tried some dispy-doodle moves, none worked, was hit hard and coughed up the puck over and over. Terrible.

Then there's Nylander. Skating in slow motion yet could have had six points. Learning to play in the AHL is not taboo!

Thanks for the updates.

any news on Trivino? Is he still suspeneded?

he's listed on the roster but hasn't played any games. I don't think he's hurt. I recall he was suspended with no timeframe specified.

Not my favorite player. I'll leave it at that.

Joensuu... this guy's gonna prove himself this year. I'm sticking to that. He's gonna fight his way into the lineup and chip in some quality minutes on the bottom six.

If I remember correctly, he's suspended for the first five games.

Hopefully he explodes after that.

I've watched him live several times last season including the BU vs BC Frozen Fenway Game. I've tried to look for good things about his game but frankly there is nothing to get excited about here.

When he was drafted scouts spoke about his play-making skills and hockey sense. But for all Islander fans who have wanted to tear their hair out watching PAP with the puck, Trivino is constantly turning the puck over (and at the worst times). He shys away from contact and in the corners. Nothing he has shown makes me feel that he will get offered an ELC.

Hate to trash him b/c I really wish him the best and hope his development turns around for the best

The one time I saw him live, was at the rookie scrimmage. I did notice that Trivino has bulked up, and he did make some nice plays during the scrimmage. I think everyone knows, this is a make or break season for him.

When was that rookie scrimmage?

Not sure about previous summers, but he wasn't with the group this past summer - or did I miss something?

Now that I think about it, he was there a couple of summers ago, right?

I didn't think Trevino was part of camp this summer, either. I know he didn't play in the Blue/Orange thing a few weeks back. If he's bulked up, though, that can only be a good thing. At this point, he's pretty much fallen off the radar as far as being a legit prospect.

Haven't seen any game, but I see that Petrov has 1G 4A in 5 games since joining Khanty-Mansiysk Yugra.

Lets hope this proves to be Petrov's coming-out party!

could be bad for us though. what if he all of a sudden doesn't want to leave this club due to him finally receiving good playing time?
