SJ puts G Thomas Greiss on waivers. Chicago puts Jonathan Carlsson on waivers. That is all.
Any interest here? Bob and Boosh played well the first two games, but are the Flyers confident that this will last? If there was a way to fit him under the cap I'd be interested in claiming him. I've said it before, more options are always better when there is a question mark.
We have quite enough goalies in the organization. Only reason to take Greiss is if we think he's clearly a #1 for us. I'm not so sure, so I'm not so interested.
I'm certainly interested. I like Greiss more than, say, Backlund. But with the glut of guys we already have, I'm not sure it's worth doing anything about.
This isn't NHL 10 where you can just hoard players. You have to have somewhere to put them and have some actual use for them.
Our NHL roster is full and our AHL roster is full (not that I would want to play Greiss in the AHL). We have Leighton, Boosh, Bobrovsky, and Backlund. Greiss is redundant to us.
This is what some Sharks fans don't seem to realize.
So, no thanks.
EDIT: Saw this move coming a mile away as soon as DW signed three NHL goalies to their big club. That's bad asset management there.

Which means you'd have to play Greiss in the AHL assuming our NHL roster is staying as is. Leighton isn't playing so replacing him with Greiss just adds another active body into the mix.
Even besides that, there's no way the organization waives Leighton.

You're probably right about that, since they seem to have a higher opinion of him than I do, but they do have a reasonable excuse as to why they would do it after signing him this off season (his back), other than the fact that he sucks.
I wouldn't mind them waiving one of Leighton/Backlund and picking up Greiss. Preferably Leighton.

Again, if you do that then you have to play Greiss in the AHL. Which I don't see the point in.

I am of the opinion that Bobrovsky won't make it the entire season in the NHL. He has scoutable and exploitable tendencies in his game that you can't consistently make up for with athleticism if teams are looking for them (I can go through them if you want). I think he stands a good chance to be a really really good goalie in the near future though.
I guess I'm just a bit of a Leighton-hater. Not personally, he seems like a good guy...but I'm not a big fan of his game, at all. This whole back injury (never mind the non-disclosure) doesn't make me any more eager to hang onto him. I don't think Greiss will make it to us anyway, so it's probably a non-issue.

It's been one game and he looked good. Gonna have to give him some more time and see how he plays before passing judgment on him. Saying he won't make it the entire season is just as good a guess as saying he will at this point.
Even beyond Bob we still have Leighton on IR and Backlund in the AHL. Between Bob, Backlund, and Leighton I'd be amazed if a starter didn't turn up sooner or later. Even if none of them are up to par, that's what a trade deadline is for. It's not like Greiss is an established NHL goalie either. He played relatively well as a backup in San Jose and that's it. His potential for NHL play this season is about just as good as Bobrovsky. So it's not like we're missing out on some prized gem here.
The only way getting Greiss makes sense is if we replace Boosh with him. Which won't happen for a variety of reasons.

I hate the phrase "Leighton-hater". No one is a "hater". Leighton just sucks. That's fact. Realizing that fact doesn't make you a hater.
None of us want Leighton, but it has no relevance to whether or not we should claim Greiss.

Forgot to mention to waive Boosh as well. Lets get a Bob/Greiss tandem going for this season. When Pronger returns, it will certainly help them.
