Callahan's penalty seemed questionable. It looked more of a slip to me.
Staal's infraction was however deserved.

Undisciplined penalties at an inopportune time, that is all you need to know about the game.

Eminger better be scratched on Friday. He played a really lousy game. Sauer played pretty well, which was a pleasant surprise.

Cue the panic and pessimism regarding the rest of the season...
Take a breath people. It was one game. We got 80 more. No offense, but some of you Ranger fans are more dramatic than high school girls.

No calls for the Isles and a ridiculous call on Cally for us.
That's all you REALLY need to know about the game.
That aside, Eminger needs to be off this team, while everyone else was fine for the most part.

Thats an AHL squad out there without Tavares, Okposo, and Streit.
What a terrible display today by the defense, particularly Del Zotto.
I shudder at the thought of what the the 3 powerful teams in our division will do if we dont tie things up on the backend quickly.

The Staal penalty was the killer. No excuse for that one.

Like I say, we tend to lose games like this.
There were a lot of contributing factors; The Isles came out faster and harder, but a lot of it in the end was luck.
Going to be hard sitting on this one for several days before the home opener.

Brutal officiating, brutal bounces. Annoying.

on the positive side, the rangers have a lot of skill. when they maintain smarts and edge, they are great. and only getting better. this is a learning experience for them. isles played really well.

Man, these NHL officials gotta have the most occurences of lobsided calls for a team in a game more than any other sport. Makes my stomach turn. They changed the whole vibe of the 3rd period, right from the drop of the puck.

Four blatant missed calls against the Islanders in the third, plus a marginal call on Callahan, following a weak call against Gaborik will cause a team to lose.
Staal's penalty was deserved however...

I don't think it was so much those penalties being called that got people upset (although the Cally one was really questionable) as it was blatant non calls at the beginning of the period (Callahan being tripped, Stepan being crosschecked in the throat, Christensen getting hooked).

5 on 3 goal ties it, fine whatever, but they have to come back and kill off the last minutes of the 5 on 4.

Stupid penalties, the referees, and Tortorella did us in today.
Boneheaded high stick by Staal that led to the 5 on 3 and tying and GWG goals. He knows better, it was disappointing to watch.
The referees....let's not even go there.
As soon as that Stepan cheap shot happened, Tortorella should have sent Boogaard out there. Not necessarily to do anything, but his presence alone sends the message that we're not ****ing around. Of course, the chance to do that was negated by another stupid penalty a shift later.
It's the 2nd game of 82 this season, but we need these points.

Not to blame the refs but they missed like 4 penalties in the 3rd on the Icelanders.
