No, but if it was Avery then he would easily be fined and suspended a game and have to go back to some sort of silly class again.

That's not saying anything though.

Obviously in beer leagues there is worse stuff, this is the NHL which is broadcasted on TV.

I don't think so, but absolutely think if it was Avery something would be done.

Nothing should be done, but you bet there would be something done if Avery did it. What they say on the ice is probably worse than this anyway.

True. He's gonna get a call from the league I believe. But it will be a nothing more than a small fine.

If Avery did that though.....???

When a man and another man love each other very much...

No, nothing to see here. This kind of stuff happens, the camera just happened to be focused on this particular incident. If we had on ice mics all game everyone would be considered "classless"

I don't think there should be anything really, I mean whatever, things are said and done. However, turn the table, and if it's Avery doing it, then theres some ridiculous action taken. I just feel as if every player should be treated the same.

The thing is, is that its a matinée game, and a lot of kids have off from school and watched the game. Some other poster said that he was watching with his kids and that's not really something he wants his kids to see. I mean, I see both sides of the argument, it was in poor taste, but its done now.

Avery was suspended for essentially that. Avery made a joke in poor taste that was taken as abusive/demeaning towards women. That action is a homophobic gesture during a day time game attended by children, broadcasted on live TV. Wisiniewski will tell you that he was either making a joke or that he got caught in the heat of the moment. Those are both excuses that didn't serve Avery with his sloppy seconds comment. Avery had to attend anger management classes just to get reinstated. I see absolutely no difference between the incidents. We have the standard set, Bettman merely needs to make it official with a press release: 6 game suspension and anger management classes.

For the record, I could care less either way. I'm not a bed wetting cry baby. I didn't think Avery deserved his discipline and Wisiniewski doesn't deserve it either. But I cannot tolerate double standards especially when it is my guy on the short end. The league does not tolerate racial or sexist comments. They don't tolerate violent gestures (throat slashing). There is no wiggle room unless the league is taking the position that graphic sexual gestures and potentially homophobic commentary is acceptable.

I don't think a fine is necessary. He did a good enough job of making himself look like a flamer. You can bet Avery will be using that against him next time they play.

from Zipay

Here's Sean Avery reacting to Wisniewski's obscene gesture in the first:
"You guys saw what he was doing. ----. But I’m sure nothing will happen to him…(Why?) Because nothing ever happens. It’s pretty obvious what happened here. It's interesting that you’ll get a warning for something like that. Can you imagine I did that? ----, They sent me to rehab the last time I did something… It’s crazy."

Based on the actual offense and what I think deserves to be punished? Of course not. Worse things are said on the ice all the time. Based on precedent? Absolutely. There's no reason why a throat slashing gesture should garner a multi-game suspension and this gets nothing.

I don't get what was so hilarious about it though. I've seen more creative insults from 5th graders.

That's because Avery has a well-earned reputation as a complete jack***, and a long list of incidents to back it up. Most likely he did something to deserve it.

Called Avery a name there. I think, but it is merely a guess, he called him f-----. All of the officials were there.

Look, this is a sport played amongst men. I hate the tattletale aspect and belly aching. But I know that if it was Avery, if it was done to anyone but Avery, a huge fine/suspension would come down. Gotta have action here.

Interesting. Interesting frame of mind you have there. I guess Avery's ex girlfriends deserved to be called sloppy seconds, I mean they did it to themselves right? And Brashear deserved to be called the n word, that's what he gets for being uppity. French Canadians deserve to be called Frogs, right?

Actually, I bet you think all that stuff is wrong... or at least you'll go on record as thinking that. So it must be ok simply because it happened to Avery. My 3 year old nephew thinks like that. Like I said, interesting.
