Monarchs 2010-11 season preview

Quote:
Though the Monarchs appear poised for success in the 2010-11 season, it will not be without challenges. After making a run to the Eastern Conference finals last year on the back of Kings’ top prospect Jonathan Bernier, the Monarchs will need to prove this year that they can succeed without the elite netminder. Bernier’s graduation, combined with the ascension of multiple players to the Kings’ roster and the departure of others from the organization, requires the Monarchs’ returning players and newcomers take on additional responsibility. However, with a roster made up almost entirely of prospects under contract with Los Angeles, one of the most varied and talented defensive cores in the AHL, and some quality options in goal, the Monarchs are, at least on paper, a force to be reckoned with.

Looks like it'll be an exciting season for Monarchs fans

Great read Josh, should be a really interesting year in Manchester. Guess Fransson can be taken off the list of blue liners, figures right after the write up he's loaned to KHL.

Robbie Czarnik got cut and sent back to the OHL. Is this due to his poor play or his attitude? I think this kid has a lot of potential as a 3rd/4th liner in the NHL. Kind of concerning...

More likely, he was cut because he wouldn't get the ice time in Manchester he would be getting with Plymouth.

How are the Monarchs lining up? Is Kozun on the first line?

Getting info and feedback from Manchester has been tougher than it used to be ...
but from what I've been able to best figure and piece together, I think they're skating like this ...

Dwight King -/- Oscar Moller (A) -/- John Zeiler (A)
Bud Holloway -/- Justin Azevedo -/- Brandon Kozun
David Meckler -/- Corey Elkins -/- Michael Pelch
Richard Clune -/- Jordan Nolan -/- Justin Johnson
scratch Zach Harnden

Thomas Hickey (A) -/- Andrew Campbell
Alec Martinez -/- David Kolomatis
Patrick Mullen -/- Jordan Hill

Jeff Zatkoff
Erik Ersberg

STILL w/ NHL KINGS on IR, but expect in Manchester this Season:
Marc-Andre Cliche' (C/RW)
Ray Kaunisto (F)
Colton Teubert (D)
Viatcheslav Voynov (D)

No CAPTAIN has been announced yet but wearing the A's were Moller, Hickey and Zeiler.

Thanks. And yeah, that's bum timing. I caught Czarnik getting cut the day it happened but Fransson bailed shortly thereafter. Surprised he stuck around for as long as he did, he was on the opening night roster.

With Seguin up in Boston, Czarnik is "the guy" in Plymouth this year. It should be a tough test for him, but sending him down will pay off in spades if he can assert himself as a top player without much help.

Looks about right to me . I'm having a lot of trouble finding any info as well, mostly just going off boxscores and recaps, but I'm fairly sure that the top powerplay unit is:
King - Moller - Meckler

That's how I put my line-up together too, boxscores, recaps and the +/- stats ... hopefully you get some feedback off our Face-Book query ...
I just refuse to assimilate to the Face-book/twitter/diggy/you'reNOTcool crowd Borg

I guess King Blazer (Dano) has left the Boards all together ? and the AHL board has been dead too.
He used to be full of the Monarchs info.

According to the Monarchs Twitter feed: Hickey, Moller and Martinez are wearing "A"s.

hmmmm the Facebook page originally had Zeiler as one of the A's but now says Martinez too ... didn't think I misread it, but maybe.

Good, he'll certainly help lead the D-corps. I'd expect him to be paired with Campbell due to familiarity (Weren't they paired most of last season?)

Justin Johnson fought know AHL tough guy Jeremy Yablonski....the kid lost, but he has balls and landed a few shots of his own. Nice job.

Didn't Voynov say he would go back to Russia if he didnt make the NHL this year? Or am I confusing him with someone else?

that was him ... but the year /or season isn't up yet either and he didn't say "if I don't make into the NHL on the starting day roster". The injury set back might have altered his perspective also ?
