I think very highly of these boards, some very smart people that know a lot about the NHL. A fair amount of people on here can name multiply teams top-6 forwards and top-4 defensemen.

That said, I remember when Toronto signed him. Just about everyone had the same reaction: "Who?" or "Who's this guy and why is Toronto paying him $3.5 million?!?!" Everyone outside of Colorado fans had no idea who this cat was.

The rationalizing as to why Exelby played more is hilarious, as if not being clearly better than Exelby wasn't damaging for Finger, and he was simply a victim of circumstance.

Quote me where I said that?

I said IMO he at least matched Exelby, with a fraction of the pressure. Your saying the guy can't play in the league, which is false.

Yes, everyone has rough spots but your kidding yourself if you think he couldn't earn a 5-7 spot on at least a hand full of teams. His contract is the problem, not his play.

Did you see that Ana/STL game yesterday? He would easily make the Ducks blueline.

Finger is a perfectly acceptable bottom pairing dman in the NHL.

However he's making 2.5ish more than he should.

Likely waived here because he's not playing (nor does he have much shot at cracking the lineup) and it gives Burke more cap flexibility through the year or at the end when bonuses hit.

So he's waived, but was he sent down? (or is that one in the same?) I would think he'd be grabbed on half-cost re-entry.

He's reporting to the Marlies when he clears.

Finger for a 7th? Finger + late pick for Ryan Carter?

I have no idea what the Ducks could give up, so forgive me if I'm way off.

Considering his contract you mean.

He slots in the 5-7 range on most teams. @ 1-1.5m per, Finger is a solid and not hated defenseman.

Leafs nation is hard on this guy for not earning his money, completely disregarding the fact that he isn't capable of doing so. People should really be angry that Fletch overpaid by 2m for a bottom pairing defenseman.

If you were Finger, how hard is ur July 1st decision when a group of teams offer you in the 1m range, and one team offers you 3.5m? Easy decision for most red blooded human beings.

Don't ever forget that a senile old man signed Finger to this ridiculous deal.
Nope he's not very good salary aside. If he was capable for the bottom pair, he would have played in the bottom pair.

Not that I should feel bad for the guy because he's getting paid big bucks to play hockey but you kinda gotta feel for him. Leafs offer him monster contract, probably double then what any other team would have offered to play in the NHL and now he's AHL bound. I'm sure we'll see him again in a few...

That being said, good move by leafs. Adding some space to play with financially...

So a guy playing for a contract next year has no pressure but the guy locked up for a few more is under more pressure? You're making very little sense.

They'd give up nothing, he's on waivers.

I like "Leafs willing to give Finger to anyone in the league", personally.

Hmm....cap space for the Leafs and so many shiny things to spend it on! What to do? What to do?

Your nit picking. Male or Female?

Your taking what I said out of context so I wont even respond.

Yes, however many players are traded shortly after they hit waivers. Souray will play in the NHL this year, I would almost guarantee it. Any team coulda had him for free, but will now likely give up a minor leaguer or a late pick for him.

If you payed any attention over the last few years, you would see its far from uncommon.

That being said, Finger in particular, will be very difficult to move. SS is an overpaid top 4, Finger is an overpaid bottom pairing. There is teams looking for top 4's and would potentially take a bad contract to get one, not so much for a bottom pairing guy.

this is exactly why once he gets sent down he wont be recalled no point in risking getting a 1.75 million cap hit for the leafs for the rest of the season and next season for nothing, he'll stay in the minors for the remainder of the year
