Finger got big money from Fletcher because he was looking like a high end shut down Dman in Colorado.

Finger isn't terrible, it's just his contract that's terrible.

Then why couldn't he crack a terrible defense?

Are you saying if he was paid less he would have played more?

I'm pretty sure Finger would get picked up on re-entry waivers. He would be a decent player for 1.75M especially on a team like Anaheim, and it could realistically happen if the leafs get a couple injuries and need a call up.

I wonder if this means that Burke will soon make a trade with a team that is tight to the cap(the Devils).

Not happening - no way the Leafs carry 1.75 in dead cap space - for multiple years.

Especially when they have 6 capable defensemen in the minors, most of which are close to becoming NHLer's.

I think the Avs are going to pick him up. He was a solid top four defenseman for us in 2007-2008, and no one wanted to see him go. But now that the Avs have all of this cap space, they can easily cushion his slightly high 3.5 million cap hit, and he can play on a shut down pairing with Hannan.

You're right in saying that they probably wouldn't happen. But in reality it is a possibility, your point that we have 6 capable defensemen has yet to be seen and Finger is a much better option than any of the others.

We only have to wait two more years, when he is 7M dollars richer, to see if he will be able to prove either way, whether he is a capable bottom pairing defenseman

interesting that the Devils just signed Mair and now Finger is sent down. I can't see the Devils wanted to dress 15 players for too many more games. Sounds like something may be happening.

I doubt something is happening. When a team is 2-0 it is hardly a motivation to trade for a player. New Jersey doesn't have that strong of a record anyway to trade a guy like Langs, and I doubt Toronto has interest in Zubrus. Tim Brent has looked great as our third line C, and adding Zubrus as the 4th line C is not feasible at all.

Theres no way finger asked for a 900K contract...

I read somewhere that there was a bidding war for him, and Burke said himself that he offered a maximum of 3mil per year.

Wow they are 2-0 hand them the cup. Zubrus > Mikhail Grabovski plan and simple

Last year Finger might have been the worst defenseman in the NHL (who played a significant amount of time).

Lebda and Exelby are fringe NHL defensemen (Exelby in particular), and Finger is worse than them.

Zubrus 82 15 25 40
Grabovski 78 20 28 48

2009-2010
Zubrus 51 10 17 27
Grabovski 59 10 25 35

Yep, obviously Zubrus is vastly superior.

Zubrus is in a position on NJ where he is used for supplemental scoring, Grabovski is one of the main sources of Leafs scoring which basically means he gets much better ice time to get a slightly better amount of points.

Not sure if the Leafs should go for Zubrus but he definantly would make the Leafs top 6 look better on paper.

When you finish 29th overall, there is always motivation to get better.

Exactly! Grabovski has looked pretty good and has not deserved a demotion at all. It's just a wrong time to make a deal.

Sure, the Leafs should always look towards getting better, but acquiring Zubrus or Langs won't necessarily achieve that. We need a legit top 6 forward, first and foremost, and Devils won't be trading Zajac or Parise. So let's look elsewhere.

2009/10
Zubrus: 16:28 TOI/game (1:57 on the PP)
Grabovski: 16:47 TOI/game (2:34 on the PP)

2008/09
Zubrus: 15:15 TOI/game (2:04 on the PP)
Grabovski: 16:13 TOI/game (2:13 on the PP)

Might want to check the facts next time.

You're right, Grabovski is cheaper and ten years younger
