Waiver draft: No defenseman?

I was just wondering what you guys think of the waiver draft. With the way your defense has been, I was sort of expecting Ferguson to take a defenseman. Namely Simpson or Therien. Does anyone know why neither was taken by the leafs? Was Therien too expensive or something?

The Leaf defence will be O.K. why blow budget on those guys and who do we then leave unprotected ? You cannot sign everyone in the league !!!

I thought though, that a stay at home guy like Simpson may have been a good idea. Was money an issue or is the team more or less content with how their defense looks?

Simpson got claimed by anahiem early and therrein was to expensive.Surprised the leafs didn't take willis or brian boucher who would have helped the goaltending sistuation as a solid back up and possible starter in the future.Thoughts?

It wouldn't have cost much to trade up. Probably a 4-6th rounder and you could have had Simpson. I just think that Ferguson would have been interested in a stay at home guy since the team doesnt have too many...

WHEN the leafs upgrade the "D" again it would have to be a major upgrade, like a #1,2 or 3 guy. Assuming that McCAbe and Kaberle are your number 1/2 guys. That leaves Klee (who should probably play with Kaberle), Marchment, Jackman, Berg and the kids fighting for the other spots. Added the defensemen in the waiver draft was not the answer. We have enough of thoses types of guys.

The guys available weren't anything more than #5-6 guys, of which the Leafs have enough already. Not to mention Chris Therien's rather hefty pricetag...

I am surprised no chance was taken on Willis or Boucher though.
