Matt Walker -- surgery update (post #148) -- out 10-12 weeks.

This should be a fun thread...

http://www.csnphilly.com/10/12/10/Fl...974&feedID=695

Quote:
Missing from the practice was defenseman Matt Walker, who has a groin/hip injury, according to general manager Paul Holmgren. That would explain why Walker has not played in any of the Flyers’ three regular season games, but has been at practice and at morning skates until now.

“He got hurt in the first preseason game and has played with it since,” Holmgren said. “We’re getting him checked by a specialist because it doesn’t seem to be getting better. We hope to know more [on Wednesday]. He could play Thursday [against Tampa Bay].”

Quote:
Turns out, Walker suffered a hip / groin injury in the preseason, Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren told the Daily News.

“Matt suffered a hip/groin injury in an early preseason game that has continued to bother him,” Holmgren said. “He went to see a doctor today. We will not know his status until tomorrow [Wednesday] at the earliest.”

A Flyers team source said surgery could be on the horizon for Walker.

The injury could explain why Walker, who will earn $1.7 million this season, was scratched in favor of fellow blue liner Oskars Bartulis last week. Hip and groin injuries have caused multiple issues for the Flyers over the last couple seasons.

I didn't know that walking up to the press box for games was that strenuous. ZING

Don't give up! Bobo and JVR have bonuses that can be tacked on next year!

Can there be a rule that says you're allowed to be over the cap by 5% during the season if your GM is a retard when it comes to adding?

Did we dump Gagne, or did Tampa dump Walker?

But wait. How can we put Lappy in Walker's body? I assume a brain transplant would be the best way, but his brain is broken.

Can we just imprint Lappy's mind on Walker's brain, then switch the brains?

6.3M for the 3rd pairing + #7 is inexcusable in the capped NHL.

Also, I still can't believe that Tampa was able to dump 5.3M per year for 3 years onto our cap hit for virtually nothing.

It doesn't matter, we get reamed in either scenario

That's one year of a rapidly shrinking SC contender window that will see this team continue an entire season with an unnecessary hole that could have been filled if cap space wasn't wasted.

Since when is the Flyers Stanley Cup window rapidly shrinking? Correct me if I'm wrong, but we are talking about a team with Giroux, Richards, Carter, Leino, JVR, Coburn, Carle, and Bobrovsky, right? I'll give you that we don't have a true #1 defenseman in line after Pronger, but like we've seen numerous times, elite defense can be acquired through trade.
