Nice to see Boyd at 19 as well.

I gotta say I'd still take Barker over Phaneuf in a longer view, the comparison to Al MacInnis is a good one I think, I still think Barker will be better than almost all the D drafted since 2000.

Especially since he's only two spots behind Chipchura, who was the anticipated 1st round pick for the Flames.

I think you would be the only one in the world who would do that.

Having watched Barker and Phaneuf plenty of times over the last couple of seasons I'd have to say Barker is a good prospect, Phaneuf is a great prospect.

First person I have ever heard say such blasphemy.

I would take Phaneuf over Crosby any day of the week.

Why is Crosby even being discussing, in a ranking of WHL prospects?

How many times have you seen Barker live? He's got all the tools but he doesn't always use them.

IMO it's easily Phaneuf after having watched both. Barker is a little more slick with the puck but that's the only area where he's got Phaneuf beat. Phaneuf is more physical, more consistent and better defensively.

Good list. Only player I disagree with is Nigel Dawes. He wouldn't even make my top 20, probably replace him with Stone.

He'd probably be ranked higher if it weren't for the injury this season. He sure started the season on a good clip.

Live? Hmm, probably a dozen or so. I stand by my statement though, I think he'll put it all together at the NHL level.

Definantly did start the season on a good clip. He would be close to a top 10 prospect if he did not screw up his achilles tendon. But with his return to the playoffs it has only helped out PA

One thing we should all remember is how Phaneuf was ranked before the draft. Coburn and Suter were the two defensemen, who were ranked higher. THN likes to show how drafts would've been, if they would've had the benefit of hindsight. It takes, at least, five years to begin to assess a draft. Phaneuf will probably be the exception to that rule of thumb, in that he's already surpassed Coburn and Suter, and might well have been the #1 overall pick. He's that good. This pick probably even exceeded the expections of the organization.

Boyd does appear to be a dark horse, because whatever he delivers is really icing on the cake. The real comparison will be to see how Chucko progresses. Then, watch what Chipchura does in Montreal. It was especially surprising when they grabbed Chipchura, since the Canadiens don't often draft players out of the Western League.

I would say he is the #1 defensive prospect in the world, and the WHL at least.
