2. Bundesliga champion EHC Munich did not hand in all required application materials. Further a deposit of 816,000 € hasn't been made. For this reasons the DEL denied Munich the promotion to the major league.
It should be interesting to see, how many teams are going to play in the DEL next season. There's still trouble in Kassel, Cologne, Krefeld and Frankfurt and now Munich doesn't move up. Anything between 11 and 15 teams seems possible (but not likely).
According to the DEL the club didn't present the guarantee-money (816000 EUR). Munich officials seemed to be surprised by this news because according to them they did transfer the money in time and have the Swift-copy in order to prove this.
The DEL also wanted more guarantees for a stadium renovation eventhough the current arena meets the 9000-points DEL-standard. Keep in mind that Munich is getting 2 new ice arenas as part of the olympic bid.
In their forum some users rumour that DEL executive Jürgen Arnold doesn't want Munich in the league because they would compete for sponsors with Arnolds club ERC Ingolstadt.
If it's true what Dfire said, than the DEL is really looking for legal trouble this summer. Every year they have a new idea to keep the fans entertained throughout the summer. Sounds like both, Munich and Kassel have to fight their way to a new licence via legal measures.
