Anyways, I think that's harsh from agrudez. Sure, a lot of girls are like that, but we don't know the girl in question and who knows, maybe she's a keeper.

I do have to say, it would be good if you had had a relationship before or even at least gotten laid. I'm not a fan of the whole "act like a ********* so that girls will like you" strategy, but some experience at least is good.

Girls at that age are immature and want to be treated like crap... have you ever noticed that girls ALWAYS go for **********? I used to be a pansy type guy (always overly nice to girls), then I realized that all the cheerleaders I was dating would break up with me 2-4 months into the relationship (one even told me I was too nice when she did it) and start dating a fat, drunk ******* from the football team.

I have now adapted myself to having a really nice mix of being a nice guy, but also being a ***** at times to switch it up. Girls want to be put down by you and then comforted by you right after... it keeps them from getting bored, but also gives them the security that they are dating someone who cares about them. I have since gone from a habitual girlfriend hopper in high school (never going more than a few weeks without one, them lasting a few months - sadly I was always the one broken up with, as cited above) to now in college I have had a 3 year relationship that I ended on my terms and now a 6 month and going strong relationship. A marked improvement, imo.

This is especially true when you are first dating a girl before she is a girlfriend, they really like being treated like ****. I have a friend who went up to an incredibly hot girl at the bar that no one else had the balls to talk to and he told her she needed to go in the bathroom and put some more make-up on... guess who got anal that night?

You have put yourself in the friend zone Solid, no doubt about it. As others have more aptly put (I love the ladder metaphor earlier) it is ****ing HARD to switch zones. I can without any doubt tell you that this girl has almost no interest in dating you right now, BUT I can also tell you that if you play it right there is SOME hope.

If you want to date this girl, here is what you do:

1) Ask her to dinner and wait for her to accept
2) Call her a half hour before you were supposed to pick her up for dinner (after she has gotten all ready for it) and then tell her that you have other plans and have to cancel
3) Go to a bar and pickup the least diseased girl (Idk about you guys, but bar girls reek of STD's to me) you can find and take her home
4) Bang her, if nothing else just to get some damn confidence in yourself, you are a mess my friend
5) Tell the friend that you want to date all about your night the night before the next day
6) Hope she gets jealous/mad, if she does then there is your hope.
----The rest is assuming she gets mad or jealous, if she doesn't then there was never any hope to being with, continue being friends and give that easy girl from the night before another call----
7) Tell her how you canceled the other night because you are sick of how she toys with your feelings. Tell her she gives you signs (like cuddling the other night) and then blows you off the next day and pretends it didn't happen and you decided you weren't going to wait around for her to come around forever.
----Hopefully at this point she is visibly upset as she thinks about how right you are (even if you aren't, that is the beauty of it, you could say almost anything when they are emotional and they will go along with it - DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO MAKE HER THE BAD GUY!!!)----
8) Now tell her how you truly feel, and that you have always felt that way, that you think of her when you wake up in the morning and dream of her as you fall asleep at night, etc.
----Hopefully at this point she is showing signs that she may feel at least a similiar way----
9) Now tell her how you are a good guy and you have seen how she was treated like **** by so many guys before you and it made you sick and you would never treat her that way because she means everything to you.
----Hopefully at this point she is unzipping your pants----
10) SEAL THE ****ING DEAL - THAT IS THE ONLY WAY OUT OF THE FRIEND ZONE

You can listen to everyone else, but this is truly the ONLY way you have ANY hope AT ALL of EVER being anymore than a friend to this girl. It also avoids the worst case scenario - that she thinks your a creep/stalker (like with Chris' horrible advice).

I may be harsh, but I honestly have your best interest at heart with this post. You really sound like a good guy that deserves this girl. Whatever you decide to do, good luck man.
Yeah, and do anal, because that's the least disease-ridden orifice

I'm sorry, but this post is hilarious, but not because I think it's one of those "its funny cause it's true" cases. I hereby nominate this as post of the year, because it reads like one of those shirts a twelve year old wears with the little boxes and step by step process of an oft-hilarious scenario. Don't take that personal, though.

My parents were pretty much best friends for 5 years before another friend of theirs tired of them never taking it further, sat down with them and told them that they loved each other. They've been married for 34 years soon (the only real glitch came when my mom forgot about their 30th anniversary and had planned and paid for a trip up to the north of Sweden with a friend during that weekend. Dad had had some other plans apparently).

Wait, Step 5 in agrudez's list is just ****ing wrong.

If you pursue that course of action, you never tell her yourself, you have to let her find out about it. You'd have one of your friends tell one of her friends and make that friend "promise not to tell her" because she will tell her anyways and it will look like less of a setup.

EDIT: For the record, I don't endorse that course of action, just pointing out the basic mistake.

So friends for a long time doesn't mean there is no chance then? I've known her since 11th grade, and I finished my 5 years of college in May. So yeah.

Nothing's set in stone except things literally set in stone. Unless you've been documenting your time together in stone as if it were Han Solo getting frozen, I wouldn't sweat it.

I mean, for at least half of those 7 years we didn't talk that much because we had our own things with college, friends and so on. Mostly the 3.5 years was in between it all really. I really got back to talking to her a ton back in like May/June. Before that, it was more we would talk at most once or twice a month. But we never lost contact in altogether. I also know at one point contact became really hard considering she didn't have her own cellphone for god knows how long.

Bill Simmons' latest column is why I can't be 100% on-board with him. Just the whole "I know Very Important People" and etc.

I mean, it's just annoying. We all know you know people around professional sports, you don't have to devote a 5,000 word column to scoops you've had that you don't know how to deal with.

Checking #38s in team history. We have Frank Bathe (his secondary number), Paul Healey, Derek Plante, Steve Washburn and Jason Zent.

Not an obvious selection for Obsq. #38.

Should we do "Whatever happened to Jason Zent?"

It's tough to say.

1) I dunno if he admits this, but I think there's a pretty massive ego there, similar to Carolla. I love Simmons and Carolla together, but it always amazes me how Carolla screams about someone being stupid and then turns around and says or does something that's 5x as dumb.

2) He doesn't do this as much anymore, but the whole "woe is me" Boston sports fan thing is absolutely ridiculous. Celtics are the most successful team ever, Bruins had Bobby Orr, Pats have won 3 titles in the last 10 years and have had a pretty good 20 year run all things considered (how many other teams have made 4 SB performances since 1990?). And the Bosox thing is kind of ridiculous and always has been.

Despite that, I still think he's funny and I still enjoy a lot of his podcasts. You just have to get by a couple things with him and his columns like the one today are annoying. I remember one he had a couple years ago where he dropped some tidbit about "the NBA's financial situation is bad, but the NHL's is 10x worse according to a person I know."

I mean, no other journalist at ESPN would be allowed to get away with that, especially considering it was fairly untrue.

The worst possible outcome of this is that she doesn't feel the same way, things are awkward for like a week, and then it's all back to normal. Go for it. I remember a long while back telling a girl I was nuts about her right as I was entering the friend zone (not as long as your situation, I realize, but that shouldn't be a huge deal), she responded that she didn't feel the same way, and she turned into one of my best friends anyway. As long as you're both mature about it she's not going to run away screaming. Considering the upside, it's worth taking the shot.

I add this only to strengthen your point, but the Pats have been to 5 Super Bowls since 1990. SB 31, 36, 38, 39, 42

And as for the last thing you said in the post... ESPN has never really cared about credibility. They run bogus and untrue reports all the time. They're a pretty big joke.

Oh yeah good call, having an undefeated season ain't too bad. Pats fans have moved into the "Well, the SB was a fluke and we lost" phase while somehow discounting that they pulled off a similar victory against the Rams.

Funny thing about both of those years, 2001 and 2007, the heavy favorite that lost the Super Bowl was nearly upset on the road by the underdog team earlier in the season. The Pats played a primetime game with the Rams midway through the 2001 season and took it down to the wire. I believe NE lost by 3 points. And in 2007 the Giants took the Pats to the brink on the Saturday night game in the last week of the season. I won't deny that the 01 Rams had more talent then the 01 Pats, or that the 07 Pats had a better on paper roster than the 07 Giants, just interesting that close games between the teams probably weren't a fluke. More evenly matched than perceived.

I don't remember 2001 as well, but the 2007 game, I believe the Pats were comfortable for most of the 2nd half and the Giants tacked on some points late.

As for the 2007 SB, I think there were fluky and non-fluky points. I mean, sure the Giants pass-rush was dominant, but the Pats still win if the Helmet Catch didn't happen and that defines the word fluke (I don't think Tyree ever caught another ball).

The Giants were in the 2007 game until about 5 or 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter, I think. Ellis Hobbs picked a pass from Eli, Pats scored to go up 10 and then Giants scored again late. It was a battle of a game though. I believe the Brady-Moss record breaking TD was to take the lead late in third or early fourth.

2001 Pats-Rams game was really interesting. It was pretty much the Pats figuring out how to beat the Rams. Terrell Buckley had a pick or two sitting on short slant routes and Tebucky Jones absolutely laid out one of the rams WRs (maybe Az Hakim?) and forced a fumble. I think NE might have had a goal line stand as well. Rams were the better team but the Pats gave them a rough go of it considering what was expected.

In SB 42 in addition to the Tyree helmet catch, Adalius Thomas also had to miss a sure fire sack and Asante Samuel and Brandon Meriweather both had to drop routine interceptions. Hobbs also fell down in the end zone and watched Burress catch the game winning TD from the ground. All on the same ****ing drive.

01 Rams and 07 Pats definitely had better rosters than the teams they lost to but the matchup problems each of the underdog teams presented weren't flukey, IMO.

How about "Derek Plante never drew as many to Philly as Robert Plant"? I have a feeling that might be found favorable by you.

My second offer is lame: #38 Jason Led Zentelin.
