C. Souray's goes on re-entry waivers - Reaches the Rangers - Rangers claim Souray
Oh I can see it now.
I don't see it... We have two guys in Hartford just waiting for their chance... Y go out and pay even half price for Souray? I realize he has a big shot but so does Vtank. I just dont see the need. We Really need a shutdown type... Not an often injured, big shot d man with a questionable (some would say at best) attitude/heart. No?

I agree. I don't want him either. This was between sarcastic because of what you just said and that it was serious because we have, you know, Sather.
Then again, if he takes Eminger's spot... I'll take him.
The third pairing is officially the worst in hockey, defensively. If you wanted to see Eminger on the the right side, why not switch him and Sauer? Sauer can't play on the off side as well as Gilroy?
Also, if these guys playing on the offside mattered so much, why not keep a left handed shot? We sent two down with no real reason behind it. Now we have to play weaker players because we have too many right handed shots. Totally mind boggling. Sauer has done nothing to make them put him in the press box.
Sauer got a brief audition on the left side at the end of the Islander game and looked completely lost and out of place. It was an unfair and stupid position for Tortorella to put a young player in, and its even worse that Sauer is seemingly scratched because of that mistake on the Isles game winner.
This is what Torts does. He'll *****, complain, and make irrational decisions until Sather gets him a left-handed defenseman to play the left side. If this was going to be such a friggin issue, they should have just kept up Valentenko or McDonagh and dealt with the growing pains.
Why not just have McD--Sauer pairing? Aren't we suppose to be somewhat rebuilding anyway? They both looked fine in pre-season. Eminger didn't. But for some stupid reason he's still a member of the team. ****ing strange.

Which is exactly why none of this makes any sense. I agree with you Sauer looked lost on that play and it was ridiculous for him to be out there. However, I'd still rather go with a guy who is solid in his own zone and has years of professional hockey under his belt, instead of Gilroy who still is learning how to be a defenseman, let alone play at the professional level.
I wish I could find the interview, I think it was from the Rangers main site with Jim Cerny where Sather basically said that Tortorella was given free reign with the roster and he told him to put the best players on the team. If that's the truth, then this all falls on Tortorella's shoulders, because he's the one who did this.
If Eminger or Gilroy were any good at all, then I could listen to the people say, "Well, V-tank and McDonagh weren't ready that's why they were sent down. They need to play hockey games and log minutes."
Unfortunately, there is no way any of them would ever be able to convince me that they couldn't bring more of what we need then the two who will be out there tonight.

Gotcha. Sorry.
Although again... even for half I'm not sure I want him... even over Emminger when we have (what I feel anyway) two guys who come cheaper, are younger and can do just as well (hopefully) waiting in the wings... and they're going to be (hopefully) part of the long term plans of this organization.
I'd rather rest my hopes on them instead of paying him and hoping he can a) Be the dman we need and b) he can stay healthy long enough for it to matter. Neither of which I'm convinved are real possibilities.

It's ridiculous.
By the time Tortorella gets that left handed defenseman, he'll be on to the next ignorant excuse.
any word on the lineup tonight with Christiansen? will he sit for Drury or is he good to play? if so, who sits? my guess would be Boogaard/Prust as i can't see Stepan sitting. thanks

Actually, there may be method to Tortorella's madness. Gilroy has played the left side as a defenseman (pretty sure Andrew Gross mentioned this). I think it's possible this is more of an audition for Gilroy to prove he can play that side. If he can, then it gives Tortorella more freedom to rotate Sauer into the lineup and see if Gilroy and Sauer can mesh well together.
Of course, I may be wrong, but it is another way of looking at the situation. I don't think Valentenko or McDonagh are really options right now--it's very hard for any team--especially one where the goal is to make the playoffs--to play two very inexperienced defenseman (and I'm including Gilroy here), even on the third pair. It puts too much pressure on the other two pairs--especially because the more minutes Del Zotto plays at even strength, the more his defensive deficencies are exposed.
