Definitely. Claim him and show how wrong Dallas is. The next Leino.

Terrible, idiotic move.

Strange also that his low-dollar one-way deal didn't shield him from this.

They must think he will be claimed. Otherwise they're on the hook for all that money in CP.

It was a gamble with no real risk. Shame the guy didn't pan out.

They haven't even given him a shot this year! He was getting pretty good reviews out of training camp, then nothing.

The only way he'll show up the Stars is if he takes on a strict HGH and steroids routine.

What the hell, Joe?

Brunnstrom has been wasted in Dallas, but couldn't we have gotten a pick for him at least? Sending him to the AHL will only hurt his already fractured confidence, and if this was a cap-related move, they should've just traded him.

You really think his problem is physical strength?

(Nice to see you back posting, btw)

I don't think there is anyway he makes it to the AHL. I think he will get claimed, especially with his low caphit someone will pick him up.

I don't know what his problem is. Maybe strength, maybe determination, maybe confidence. All I know is that when he, the puck, and an opposing player would enter an area, it was always the opposing player leaving with the puck.

I doubt any GM would give up a pick to get this one-way contract. Maybe someone will take him for free off waivers.

If we're talking 1v1 board battles, I think that's almost all the result of poor technique and body positioning caused by a lack of practical experience. Brunnstrom is one of the bigger guys on the team. The confidence issue comes into play when he already has the puck in the neutral or defensive zones. These are both eminently coachable problems.

To expand... take a guy like Wandell who generally has good wall technique. He could probably win even more battles if he had Brunnstrom's body. But Brunnstrom himself isn't going to be appreciably helped by adding that same amount of strength.

Please let someone claim him, for his sake.

I don't think coaches at the NHL level want to or do coach that kind of technique. You don't often hear of coaches teaching 25 year old players some of the more basic elements of hockey. Coaches will teach systems, but they don't want to offer skating lessons.

According to capgeek Sergei Korostin has been recalled.

e: As of yesterday, apparently.

e2: No one else has news of this. Odd.

Well, that's their choice and if they want to be content with icing Krys Barch that's the way they can go.

Brunnstrom is a special case in that he started playing high-level hockey at a comparatively late age. The Stars scouts and front office were obviously aware of this. If they wanted to reap the benefits of his talent then they needed to have given him special coaching attention in the areas he lacked. They evidently don't consider that a priority, so we'll see if another team does.

Or maybe they did in training camp and were disappointed with the results. This was the third full training camp with Brunnstrom. He's 25. If he's not getting better through those camps, sitting in the press box won't help that. No player ever improved by being a healthy scratch.

Still would have liked to see him get some legitimate time (10 games) with Ribs and Morrow. He was solid with Ribs back in '09.

I agree Niewy should have tried to get a 6th or 7th round pick out of him.

I highly doubt he goes to CP. My take is the stars just feel like maybe theres another team that will give him a better opportunity and they know having him rot on their bench isnt good for anyone. Theres also only so much more time before a guy like Gagnon has to clear on re-entry so perhaps they want to get him up to the NHL before its too late.

That is what I thought but Heika says something different, who knows could just be lip service though...

They are hoping he makes it through and he is able to go to the minors. If he is assigned to the minors, he would probably spend the entire season there, as he would probably get picked up on re-entry waivers at half price if the Stars tried to bring him back up.

The Stars say a year in the minors could do Brunnstrom some good.

Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said he looked to trade Brunnstrom, but could not find a taker.
Heika also says no plans to call anyone up and that Benn may be ready to go by Monday.
