Using moen in the top 6 for brief spurts worked well last season. I'd rather see the opportunity go to eller though

Every time he jumps on the ice with Gomez and Gionta he's too tentative. The 4th (or 3B) line is not that big a demotion anyway, seeing as how well Pyatt and Boyd have played since the beginning of the year.
I agree. I don't think of the line demotion as punishment the way some people put it. They are not punishing Pouliot. It just isn't working right now, and until it does we need something to patch it up. But I am not sure if Moen would be my first choice. I think a guy like Boyd would fit in well as a patch up. He's fast, he's a plugger and I think he might have a little offensive upside. My first choice would be Eller though. The great thing about Moen is that he can bring a bit of strength to that line, but I don't think he belongs in the top six.

Seems like a promotion for Pouliot. Pyatt/Boyd have been much better than Gomez/Gionta in the first couple of games.

I'd prefer this;

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Kostitsyn
Eller - Gomez - Gionta
Pouliot - Boyd - Pyatt
Moen - Halpern - Lapierre

Eller is not in the top 6 because the Eller - Halpern - Lapierre line ROCKS!

Montreal has a lot role players that are different but gel well together. The 3rd and 4th line are REALLY interchangeble and are arguably amunst the best bottom lines in the league.

At least we are not having different non-gelling lines every game a la Carbo.

What about switching Pouliot and Kosty?

Cammy-Pleks-Pouliot
Kosty-Gomez-Gionta
Boyd-Eller-Lapierre
Moen-Halpern-Pyatt

I actually look at this a different way. Moen being with Gomez and Gionta makes the new 4th line in my eyes since Gomez, Gionta and Moen all played Brutal last night. I wouldn't look at it as Moen getting promoted, I see it as Gomez and Gionta getting demoted. Subban didn't play his best game last night either....it might do him some good to sit in the pressbox for a game. He needs to calm down, stop getting hot-headed when someone touches him and start simplifying his game a bit better. He tries to do too much and be too fancy. He needs to keep it simple and do what works.
Unfortunately the Gomez line still gets 2nd line minutes.

I disagree with those who have suggested that Pouliot has played well.

He has two shots in three games. Is he not supposed to be a goal scorer?

In his last 20 regular season games he has 2 goals, despite spending most of that time with Gomez and Gionta. It's time to hold him accountable. He's simply been awful.

Could be a solution, but right now the Cammalleri-Plekanec-Kostitsyn work well so I don't see Martin break it up. I would like to see Pouliot with Eller and one of Lapierre or Boyd with Gomez and Gionta it could be a test and if it doesn't work you can retry Pouliot there.

Too bad we can't put MaxPac in a time machine and put a fully developed version of him with Gomez and Gio

It's a kick in the butt. But Moen should not be in the top 6.

He won't be long term, not sure why everybody is panicking. What would we do if we were Pittsburgh and only had one top 6 calibre winger.

We only have two (Cammy and Gionta), potentially three in Eller.

Eller has earned his minutes, keep him in there.

Dunno if anyone mentioned it, but it's on tsn.ca/nhl right now. Nice to see subban and pouliot taking it with their head up. Pouliot saying he's gotta keep playing hard and not rely on 3 good games. Says he understands that you gotta mix things up to get certain lines going and will play his game.

What about
Cammelleri - Plekanec - Eller
Kostitsyn - Gomez - Gionta
Pouliot - Boyd - Lapierre
Pyatt - Halpern - Moen

or (if JM really wants Moen with GG)

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Kostitsyn
Moen - Gomez - Gionta
Pouliot - Eller - Lapierre
Pyatt - Boyd - Halpern

I was called names by Asterix and KrissE back in the training camp of September 2009 when I suggested the guy should stay in the AHL one full year. Looks like it wasn't that silly, eh?

I'd really like JM to catch up and understand that BenPou had his greatest camp time with Eller ( put him back as a center dumbass JM ) and see something more like that.

Cammalleri - Plekanec - Kostitsyn
Boyd - Gomez - Gionta
Pouliot - Eller - Lapierre
Pyatt - Halpern - Moen

We'd have 3 nice first lines why can't he do it

That's probably where he'll end up, but he doesn't want to burn out the kids early on and also wants to check on different combinations. You have to make the kids earn it too so they'll understand the level of high quality consistency needed.

Plus he probably wants to create some competition.

I'm not sure Boyd is gonna be that guy who wins the top 6 spot to be honest.

Says that either Darche or Pyatt will be playing on the Gomez Gionta line against the Devils and that those are Martin's options right now because he's going for more experienced players. So that explains why Eller hasn't been given a shot there yet.

I wouldn't mind Pyatt there but to me Darche is gonna be ineffective on that line.

Darche has more offensive skill than Pyatt. Last year he had short term success playing with skill guys on the top 2 lines. Pyatt to me at this point is strictly a defensive specialist.

I don't agree at all. Pyatt doesn't have much offensive skill ok, but his speed is what creates offensive opportunities for himself and his linemates. Darche is very slow and can't keep up with Gomez n Gionta he only has a chance on that line because of his positioning and so he can go infront of the net and screen the goalie like he did last year.

Pyatt hasn't used his speed to generate offense at the NHL level, maybe at lower levels. Not sure where you get that Darche is very slow, his speed is average, which is good at his size. I think he's a better guy to try and jump start a line, though he isn't a top 6 guy full time.

Why not try Boyd then? He has more "experience" in the NHL than both Pyatt and Darche combined (and is also a lot better offensively), and then put Eller at center where he looks a lot more comfortable.
