Brunnstrom's skill set has largely been misused while in Dallas, going back to Tippett keeping him on the 3rd and 4th line most of his first season despite regular flashes of brilliance.

Now that there's no room for him in the top 6 (no complaints there, our offense is looking great so far), I think the least he could've done was shop Brunnstrom for a pick or something, instead of basically giving him up for free.

I think he'll show more with his new team, if given ample opportunity.
At the same time, majority of rosters are set for teams so many would have to also put someone they value as an everyday NHLer on waivers to snag him.

Perhaps Dallas is trying to sneak him to the A?

Maybe, but then they'd have to put him on re-entry's to get him back...and I highly doubt he'd make it through then.

And you think he didn't try to shop him before? Come on...

Dallas doesn't have enough money to pay someone NHL money in the AHL, even $675k.

I'd like to see Brunnstrom get another shot somewhere. LA maybe?

I would definately claim him if I were Montreal.

He has skills, and we lack bodies capable of going on a top-6. He'd be a nice insurance policy for Kostitsyn and more importantly, Pouliot.

poor Borris, he takes a punch in the balls from behind by Sidney Crosby with no punishment involved and now gets waived. poor, poor Boris

i still think this kid has lots of upside. look at stamkos under melrose. was nearly non exitant and now look at him with a different coach and style. he will get picked up quick there are teams with his kind of cap space.

I think we'd find he's more of the same in the Pouliot category. Enough pure skill that for some stretches we think AHA! the solution has arrived, but then once the novelty wears off we'd realize why Dallas (/Minnesota for Pouliot) was shipping him out.

I mean, sometimes those things do work out, so if the Habs had an easy player to dump to accommodate Brunnstrom, I'd say go for it anyway. But I'm not sure there's an easy choice... ?

That's probably not a comparison you want to make...

Hard to see somebody not giving him a chance.

Think he will do better on another team if he gets to play consistent top six minutes.

How about Dallas takes Valabik and Atlanta take Bunnstrom.

Valabik is coming off of surgery and a long rehab and was just awful in his pre-season debut. Stunningly bad. A historically bad performance by an Atlanta defenseman, even for that franchise.

Atlanta doesn't waive Freddy Meyer, btw...they like him and he's worked out great as the depth defenseman.

So I guess Valabik won't be the next Chara after all. Chara developed slowly too, but Valabik hasn't been developing at all.

Panthers, Pens, Devils. Wouldn't discount the Hawks Wings or Flames either. Will Valabik clear?

I hope Valabik clears and gets his game together in the AHL but really in all reality he isn't built for Ramseys system.

I respect you Modo as a poster, but you have to believe that any GM would shop a player for a pick before letting them go for free. I can't imagine a GM of a National Hockey League team would over look obtaining an asset before offering a player for free.

Could it have been that no one was willing to offer a pick for him?

I imagine what Dallas is trying to do is to get Brunnstrom claimed. I don't think they have any intention of sending him to Texas. If he is claimed, we'll probably see Gagnon called up.

The writing was on the way for Fabian for awhile now. The Stars didnt even give him a look on the Ribeiro line. The guy is really skilled and should get a chance somewhere. I can definitely see him as one of those change of scenery guys who in a better situation can contribute right away.

Would be surprised to not see him either claimed, or like huselius a few years ago, clearing and then traded in a swap of unproductive cheap players
NYI will not be looking at him at all. We picked up Grabner last week and Tavares comes back Saturday. We don't have room and the fans are sick of these lets see what that player has.

We are trying to run PA Tambellini out of town as we speak

Wow, he must've really stunk up the joint in Dallas if Adam Burish gets more playing time.

I could see a team like NYI or Edmonton taking a chance on Valabik. However, I think more red flags surround Brunnstrom.

Isles made a GENIUS move snagging Grabner off waivers, they'd look really smart taking Brunnstrom as well. Honestly, if they just "let him play", as many young players sometimes need, he could probably show some real good stuff!

Heck, it's the Islanders...why not try it?
