PENGUINS' STATS: FLYERS-PENGUINS' SERIES HISTORY:
Current and Miscellaneous:
  • The Flyers' W-L-T-OTL regular season record is 134-79-30-6.
  • The Flyers' W-L-T-OTL regular season home record is 89-24-8-3.
  • The Flyers' W-L-T-OTL regular season road record is 45-55-22-3.
  • The Flyers have won three (1989, 1997, 2000) PO series and lost two (2008 and 2009)
  • The Flyers are 15-14 (8-6 home and 7-8 away) in 29 PO games.

2009-10:
  • 2009 -- October 8 -- Marc-Andre Fleury made 30 saves in Pittsburgh's 5-4 win at Philly. The Penguins scored a PPG in the opening minute after Danny Briere's minor 14 seconds into the game. Evgeni Malkin and Alex Goligoski each had a goal and an assist. Sidney Crosby was scoreless but won 21 of 24 (.875) faceoffs while the rest of the squad won just 16 of 43. Jeff Carter (2-2-4), who tied a career-high with four points, and Briere each scored twice. Ian Laperriere and Craig Adams fought 1:14 into the game -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6b-ARo-WN4 . With less than two seconds remaining, a multi-layer confrontation was escalated when Kris Letang accused Scott Hartnell of biting him during a scrum. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UeuX8...eature=related
  • 2009 -- December 15 -- Sidney Crosby (1-2-3), Jordan Staal (2-0-2) and Marc-Andre Fleury (26 saves) led Pittsburgh to a 6-1 home win. Staal scored a first period SHG and made it 4-1 with 15 seconds left in the second period. Brian Boucher made 29 saves. There were three fights in the opening 5:33 of the game: Arron Asham vs. Mike Rupp ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jf-5We09bFs ), Riley Cote vs. Eric Godard ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GPn_roATaHU ) and Dan Carcillo vs. Craig Adams ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XiGl2oKhrzs ).

  • 2009 -- December 17 -- Marc-Andre Fleury made 31 saves and Sidney Crosby and Kris Letang scored the only goals in the shootout leading Pittsburgh to a 3-2 win at Philly. The Penguins went 2-for-5 on the PP. Jeff Carter and Bill Guerin traded goals 3:48 into the game. Claude Giroux and Crosby swapped PPGs in the second period. Brian Boucher made 28 saves for Philly. The Flyers held a 33-30 shots advantage including 2-0 in OT. Arron Asham fought Mike Rupp -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u2s7l_p-n_g

  • 2010 -- January 7 -- Michael Leighton made 35 saves, Jeff Carter and James van Riemsdyk each scored twice and Matt Carle (1-2-3) added three points in the Flyers' 7-4 win at Pittsburgh. The Flyers scored twice in 31 seconds to take a 2-0 lead early in the game and led 3-2 after one period. After the Penguins got within 3-2 in the final minute of the opening period, the Flyers made it 5-2 with a pair of goals (Chris Pronger and JVR) in the first three minutes of the second period. Marc-Andre Fleury (11 saves, 15 shots) was removed 1:42 into the second period with the Pens down 4-2 and Brent Johnson (13 saves, 15 shots) went the rest of the game. Sidney Crosby scored twice. Simon Gagne's controversial no-goal call -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Lf5eLv2v4I -- which led to the suspension of a FSN Pittsburgh employee -- http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10012/1027693-100.stm

  • 2010 -- January 24 -- Matt Cooke's deflection of a Sergei Gonchar shot with 1:47 to play, 13 seconds into a Kimmo Timonen delay of game minor, lifted Pittsburgh to a 2-1 win in Philly. Gonchar scored a PPG in the first period. Brent Johnson made 27 saves. Jeff Carter gave Philly a 1-0 lead 5:18 into the game. The Flyers went 1-for-9 on PPs. Pittsburgh was 2-for-6 on PPs. After the game, Flyers' head coach Peter Laviolette questioned the game's officiating "I guess I'm frustrated because for the last month and a half we've been preaching discipline, preaching staying out of the box and our players have bought into that. We'll kill the ones we have to take, but going back and looking at that game there are just too many penalties that never happened. Simon Gagne didn't high stick anybody. So it turns around and goes the other way. Scott Hartnell did not, in my opinion, interfere with the goaltender. I don't know if it's a reputation from the past but you know we want to play tough, physical, but we don't need to go to the box. But we're still going there and our players aren't taking penalties." Darroll Powe-Kris Letang -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T6pROshn61Q

  • 2010 -- March 27 -- Marc-Andre Fleury made 26 saves and Sidney Crosby (0-3-3) had three points in Pittsburgh's 4-1 home win. Arron Asham gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead 1:02 into the game. The momentum began to swing when referee Dan Marouelli initially signaled a Simon Gagne goal which could have given Philly a 2-1 lead but that call was overturned because, it was determined, Ville Leino upended Fleury despite no penalty being called. "I don't know if you're allowed to do that, look at the [scoreboard] replay and change your decision. I had no idea they were going to take the goal away," said Gagne. Johan Backlund (22 saves, 24 shots) became the fourth Flyers' goalie to start this regular season but left with a lower body injury and was replaced by Brian Boucher (5 saves, 7 shots).

2010-11:
  • 2010 -- October 7, 2010 -- The Flyers spoiled the debut of Pittsburgh's Consol Energy Center with a 3-2 victory in both teams' season openers. Flyers' rookie goalie Sergei Bobrovsky, who became the youngest Flyers' goalie to start on opening night at age 22 years and 17 days, made 29 saves and was chosen the game's top star. Danny Briere scored the first goal in the new building 2:51 into the second period and Philly led the remainder of the game. Blair Betts gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead late in the second period. Tyler Kennedy scored Pittsburgh's first goal in the opening minute of the third period. Claude Giroux's nifty SHG gave Philly a 3-1 lead but 19 seconds later Alex Goligowski made it 3-2. Chris Pronger did not play for the Flyers. The game drew an estimated 730,000 viewers on Versus, the most-viewed regular season NHL telecast ever on the network. Great GDT as usual.

But I thought Comrie was back in the lineup I thought he played tonight I could be wrong though?

Anyway it would be great if we could beat Pit twice early in the season let's hope we get off to a strong start tomorrow and play hard for 60 minutes.

I think the chances are close to 90%. They have to after how Boosh played. Also since he played well against them before I see them putting him in again.

I used the lineups from tonight, except the goalie. When the lineups are posted, I'll make the change.

I'll miss most of the game due to work. This will be another close one. Special teams will probably be the difference maker so a power play goal would be nice. Let's go Flyers!!! Great GDT MSE.

hopefully we can grab another against them early in the season while they look to be struggling somewhat, I'm confident if the team plays like they have (minus the PP) and get some timely saves unlike the other night they should be able to come away with 2 points.

I really don't like the top line. I am a big Carcillo fan but he is not a top liner. I think the Flyers should make a move for a solid third liner, move Carcillo to the 4th and put JVR or Z on the top line. Wishful thinking. Let's kick some Penguin ass tomorrow!

If Orpik is out (which he probably will be) then there's no excuse for a loss. Even if he isn't out, it will still be embarrassing to lose to a Pittsburgh lineup that's far from healthy.

Fantastic job MSE - thank you!

Hopefully we see a team with energy and that plays 5 on 5 and PP the way they do on the PK.
