NHL rescinds major against Penguins' Kris Letang

NHL rescinds major against Penguins' Kris Letang

Sporting News
Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Kris Letang will not face potential punishment for Friday's hit on New York Islanders forward Blake Comeau, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Letang was given a five-minute major and a game misconduct for a hard hit on Comeau. Officials made the call believing Letang had hit Comeau in the head. Video replays showed that was not the case, and NHL disciplinarians rescinded the major, the Post-Gazette reports.

Little late on the posting of that. But pretty much this was a no brainier... But then again generally 9 out of 10 times there is a no brainier with this head office they choose to not have a brain.

Glad to see they made the right move here.

Geez, I thought Referees in one of the sporting codes here were bad (and leave the NHL for dead).

I thought that was a BS call.

Maybe the NHL decided this time that all the bad publicity they were getting from this horrendous call deserved to be taken seriously for a change?

Miracles do happen. There is no way that Letang should have a potential suspension hanging over his head for a blatant wrong call. NHL finally pulled their head out of their arse and did something right for a change.

Am still amazed that the NHL handled this whole fiasco *gasp* correctly.

Way to go NHL...here's a gold star. Keep up the great work.

That is a major concern.

Anyway glad the league rescinded the penalty but an even smarter move is to sit down with the refs over the next week or two as the schedule allows it and clarify what this rule is about and also maybe add a nice little provision in there about if you leave your chin strap so loose that your helmet flies off... wait... isn't there already a rule like that in place? What's-his-face should've gotten 2 for that. All this loose helmet, loose strap stuff has to go. Tighten it up and wrench it down (enough that it doesn't fly off from a shoulder-to-shoulder hit) or sit for 2. It's for your own safety as much as the gamesmanship of leaving it loose to draw penalties.

My son plays deck hockey, and its down tight. He should be fined for making the league/refs look stupid.

I agree about the helmet being on tight, he may as well not wear it if it's going to fly off every time someone hits him hard. If Letang had hit Comeau in the head his helmet would have ended up a few rows back.
