Proposal

When Kuba is back:

To EDM: Campoli, 3rd

To OTT: Brule, Strudwick

Gets us a guy who can help us with scoring and a sorta tough defensive dman to be our 6th/7th. Oilers get a decent puck mover who would be their 4th or 5th dman and a good pick.

Kuba is not going anywhere and I don't know why so many people want to trade him. We miss Kuba right now, we are lacking his size, his awareness in our own zone and presence on the PP. I think everything matches up much better on defense with Kuba in the lineup.

I'd trade him in the right deal for a forward but I would not just easily toss him into any proposal.

Agreed. Kuba is a massive part of this team and I think hes a big part of our struggles. With him in our lineup our D becomes actually quite good.

What I would do in terms of the roster. Leclaire is waived. Huge amount of cap space is created. We wait several months and pick up some talent maybe a month before the trade deadline when it is cheaper to acquire a 1st line/2nd line forward or a veteran goalie.

This is a decent idea, but the fact that Souray is on the books next year as well kills this for me. We finally will have the cap space to do something meaningful, this would be a disappointing use of it.

Souray is a guarantee. I dont see many UFA dmen hitting the market that are better than Souray

Tha't a great trade idea - you should put it on the main board.

Hehehe. It makes us better overall and solves other teams problems.

Why would we want to add a UFA D-man right now?
It would be the last thing on my mind. Moving some of the depth D to clear spots for rookies makes sense though.

Actually - i'd rather bite the bullet - than take on 2 aging vets with cap un-friendly terms. To delete both Leclaire and Kovalev's salaries next year is a big bonus.

Think Dallas/Ottawa would go for:

Karlsson, Kovalev, 2nd

4

Neal, Robidas

Ottawa gets big sniper with 30+ goal upside, Robidas is solid.

Dallas gets potential top 5 offensive D man, good pick.

Talked to my brother in law on the weekend... he spent 20 years in the sports business and worked for an NHL club.

He thinks the problem is that Melnyk meddles and is in the coach, management and players faces. I gather that comments are made on networks and my media covering other teams that Melnyk "hangs out" with the players too much, i.e. he is near the dressing rooms and around bench at practices, etc. when he is with the team.

I dunno. Melnyk brings money and passion to the team, but these comments keep coming up and I get the sense, outside Ottawa, that this is seen as part of the problem.

So, trades are not what I want to see. I am actually pleased with the line-up. Perhaps this post is off-topic for the thread, but I think we have the players to put together a decent season and perhaps even a decent post season. The fact that we have had decent teams in the past makes me wonder what it is that makes us perform so poorly for stretches, and have constant issues..... just a comment, perhaps in frustration....

I do think that Elliott could have been stronger. The goaltending issue is a real one, and I think we need a goalie that is more reliable. Problem is the only goalie people would want out of Ottawa is Lehner, and he should not be up for discussion at all. So, it is what it is between the pipes....

What a wide variety of points.

On Melnyk - I am working on getting my **** together so I can make a few billion and buy the team, but until then I don't mind him.

He's sometimes got a big mouth but I don't blame him - I really don't think it makes any sense to say he's a problem with the team.

Flamboyent owner >>> Bankrupt owner.

We are damn lucky to have this guy put so much into the team

The OP was suggesting that the Sens trade Campoli. Not Kuba. He said that when Kuba is back from injury, the Sens could trade Campoli.

I'm not much of a proposal guy, but I'll give it a shot.

At the deadline:

Alex Kovalev and a 2nd (or 1st)

for

Alex Semin

I'm pretty sure the Caps want to hang on to Semin for the playoffs. If Dallas is out of the playoff race I'd like to see us swing a deal for Richards, maybe.

What if they don't make the playoffs?

jk jk, It's just a meaningless proposal.
