I am hearing Andrei Markov will definitely sign a longterm contract extension with The Montreal Canadiens. Expect a 5 to 6 year deal.

That would be awesome. I wonder what kind of cap it would be. If he signs a contract until he's 38 hopefully it would be for 5 or less. Markov is huge for this team they need to build the defence around him.

Don't have to have inside sources to come up with that...does anyone seriously think Markov is going anywhere?
Obviously he's going to re-sign...and obviously, it's going to be a deal in the 4-5-6 year range.
Man, some people (in this case Tony M) will do anything to be the first to break a news story lol, even state the obvious

Of cours he was going to resign but it COULD have been a 2-3 years deal.

its never that obvious when it comes to contracts, and its nice to hear positives when it comes to your star players.

Come on lol...Markov's next deal will most likely be his last big money deal...he's going to look for long term security.
This is a no-brainer fellas..

Why? He was the only one that called Latendresse going to be traded, weeks before anybody else, among other things..

Yeah I KNOW that's the right thing to do but it's not in any way a certainty ! Concidering that he has been injured a lot in the past 2 seasons, maybe the organisation was reconcidering a long term offer. It was a possibility. I'm happy it seems not to be the case !

What difference does it make as long as it gets done? Plekanec was another deal that was an obvious.
Personally, i'd rather players focus on their season at hand rather than negotiating complex contracts.

Nope.
The original terms agreed upon in his original contract don't change.

True...but i'm assuming the organization sees what any hockey fan does when it comes to the Habs. Andrei Markov is THE most important player and best player for this franchise. It's a no-brainer...
The only issue at hand here is how Markov plays following his surgery...that might affect the money being offered.

That would not be logical at all.
He's already under contract. The new cap hit doesn't kick-in until the new contract starts.
