I know you like the physical play but come on. Fowler is the only D man who can actually make a pass out of the zone right now. Brookbank just tries to shoot it around the boards causing the Ducks to be stuck in the defensive end. He is pretty bad right now and not very skilled.

To be honest, I've always liked brookbank... But he is just terrible this year. We have the leagues worst defense. He is our worst defenseman (to this point), it is completely as bad as what everyone is saying... If he picks itup good for him. As of now he doesn't deserve to play on this team.

Brookbank's great season last year has earned him some rope. He's also now becoming underrated as he hasn't as bad as some here are saying, at least in relation to the rest of this makeshift defense. Having young guys like Sbisa and Festerling probably hasn't helped either.

The thing is, Brookbank HAS been that bad, so it's totally fair to criticize him ... but it's not so fair to single him out when over half the team has played like crap. He's just one of many who need to get their **** together or they need to get replaced. And it's gotta happen fast, as in by game 10-15, because we don't have a lot of margin here to screw around.

# Looks like Toni Lydman will make his long-awaited Ducks debut. Believed to be playing with Visnovsky tonight.

Looks that way. The bottom pairing could go one a few ways considering how those 3 have played. We will see

Great news, defence starts to look better.

Hopefully he can be a good signing and partner for Lubo!

Mara was awful last game. Sit him in the pressbox.

Lubo-Lydman (hopefully this brings out the best in Lubo)
Fowler-Mikk/Brookbank
Sbisa-Mikk/Brookbank

Sbisa had his best game of the season last game. He shouldn't be benched.

Lydman - Vis really make a great #3 and #4, too bad we dont have a 1 and 2 shutdown pairing
He actually looked pretty good for his first game after injury and really helped the D but did looks very skinny and is not a physical player.

And you are just worried about that?. Ok.

He was the best dman on the ice IMO tonight and that coming from after injury and beeing rusty. Lydman btw led Sabres in hitting last season and in shotblocking (or second). He isn't wow physical but not softy either. At one moment he easily pushed Buff on the ice Solid defender that certainly will help our sucky D.

He wants a team of Prongers don't worry about him

I've been aware of Lydman's play since before we acquired him. They aren't an ideal 1 and 2 but Lydman's style can compliment Lubo really well. Glad he is finally healthy

You are like a broken record.......

It did not surprise me at all when you said in another thread you wanted Valabik. Its like you are obsessed with this notion that everyone has to be huge and physical. I guess in your mind, skill is not necessary.

Lydman looked good in his first game as a Duck.

Looks like a solid #3 type.

Mara has played a lot better than Brookbank and Mikkelson...

I'm pretty close to adding you to my blocked list, congrats!

Take it as a compliment duckstud, I've been trying to get on that list for at least a year and a half now. Anyway, I would disagree that he has played better than Mikkelson, but Mara has definitely been a bright spot and seems to have some good chemistry with Fowler.

That's exactly the role he excels in. Second pairing, first PK unit.

First off, sorry for this late response, I've had internet issues and I don't like posting long posts on my Iphone.

Second, wow Erincut, did you really just threaten to put me on a blocked list on a internet message board? You badass! Not only did you do that, but you're doing it because my opinion differs from yours. I've been on the this board for a long time and not once through all the BS (a lot of it yours) have I put anyone on the ignore list because I thought it might cause confusion when reading other posts. I've watched you make a full out of yourself time after time and there's no question you are the biggest joke of a poster on this board. It's not a coincidence that people on the main board have made comments like "he's not even liked by other Duck fans". The funny thing is that I thought you were over this lame phase and I actually liked hearing your input on some things. Guess I was wrong. So please if you feel the need to ignore posters because they disagree with you and took a few shots at a player you like, feel free, it seriously will not bother me one bit to be ignored by the poster with the least amount of credit here. Maybe it's me, but I think if I agreed with everyone here, the discussions would be extremely boring. Oh well though. I'm suprised you post at all, haven't you been "Harvard bound" for years now? lol

Now after addressing that assinine post, I'll comment on Mara:
It's been two games since I posted and I will say that my opinion is changed to a certain degree. I really think Mara and Fowler have been playing their best lately, especially Fowler. This has nothing to do with Fowler scoring a goal either. His positioning and decisions have been much better. Mara has done a good job of playing within himself and he isn't trying to do too much. That pair still struggles against aggressive forecheck way too much though. On dump and chase chances, Mara is often beat to the puck and Fowler struggles a lot along the boards. I still hate the Mara signing, but that's more on Murray then Mara. He did a horrible job of using the team's money this offseason.

Since it's the Lydman thread, let me stop by saying that I think he has played very good. The best thing about him is that he has made Lubo play like the top defenseman we need him to be. Aside from that near disasterous turnover at the end of the game against Pheonix, he has been great and definitely looked like a #1 defenseman.
