Islanders in 3 Years

What do you think their lineup might look like?

What do they need to add to become a cup threat IYO? (better d)

Well, if everyone does ok, Nino-Tavares-Okposo wouldn't be a half bad first line, and Kabanov and Bailey aren't chopped liver either.

I have no idea who their d prospects are outside of Harmonic though.

If they can keep the great group of young players they have they can definitely compete.

I doubt they will look exactly like this but,

Niederreiter - Tavares - Petrov
Moulson - Bailey - Okposo
Grabner - Nelson - Kabanov
Comeau - Konopka - Gillies

De Hann - Streit
Hamonic - MacDonald
?????? - ??????

Man, you are really obsessed with the Isles.

And yes, things have actually changed quite a bit in 3 years.

I think in 3 years they will be a solid playoff team, that's the farthest I'll go with that prediction.

I will say though, they look a lot better now then they did 3 years ago. They finally have a solid core forming with Tavares-Bailey looking to be a very formidable 1-2 punch down the center and on the right side they have Okposo with an "A" coming off a 52pt sophomore season and Moulson breaking in with a great 30G season. That's all they have for real impact core guys who have made the team thus far but their farm is overflowing with bluechippers in Niederreiter, Petrov, Kabanov, Nelson, Grabner, De Haan, Hamonic..etc who could all be very valuable pieces for the Islanders in the near future. It also won't hurt if DiPietro (who will be aged 32, still very much a goalies prime) is able to stabilize his health in 3 years time, because when he is healthy and on his game he is actually one of the very best in the game at his position.

Calvin De Haan is the can't miss prospect. Aaron Ness is smallish but has a very nice upside. Outside of that, nothing spectacular.

De Haan and Hamonic may very well be with the big club next year. If guys like Eaton, Mottau and Jurcina continue to be available at reasonable prices, Garth should be able to fill out a pretty good defensive crew.

Obviously we are a looooong way from serious contention but the Isles are building something which will be above average for an extended period of time. Nice to see considering the fans have been rooting for crap for so long.

3 years ago our top 3 lines were filled with mediocre place holders, most of whom are no longer playing NHL hockey (and this was very predictable at the time). Our prospects consisted of Okposo and a bunch of tweeners/second tier prospects (although Comeau and Nielsen actually turned out fine). I don't think anybody predicted the Islanders to be very good 3 years ago. That roster was the reason Snow finally decided to go into full out rebuild mode (not necessarily "tanking" but going with a full out youth model). The fruits of that decision are just starting to blossom. Snow still has a ways to go but comparing this team to the team from three years ago is ignorant and not at all accurate.

Blake Comeau looks like a 30/30 guy in the making so I would bump him up alittle bit, also I would make room for 20 year old wrecking machine Matt Martin
