Should the Hawks consider Valabik?

Boris Valabik has been placed on waivers by Thrashers who are trying to trim roster by 1 forward and 1 dman

6'7 left handed 23 yr old dman was a 1st rounder in 04

Injuries have hurt his development but I would be much more happy to have him as our #6/7 then Scott

At least Valabik still has room to develop while being a decent fighter and he has better hockey sense defensively

Valabik > Scott or Cullimore

If what they want is size and nastiness you cant get much worse(better) then him. Although he does fight sometimes just to fight and it hurts the team cause he's so huge it's sad when he loses to smaller guys. Tootoo owned him.

I hated him in juniors but its the Barry Bonds effect. I'd put in a claim but armchair gm's put more claims in then real nhl gms

But he does have potential still

I remember watching him with Wolves ,,, If he doesn't suffer thru those injuries he would be an established dman right now

But like I said he is an improvement over Scott/Cullimore by a mile

How long will it take for the Hawks to consider Lalonde or Connelly better than Scott/Hendry/Boynton?

How long will it take for Jen Patterson to consider a job better than Boynton? Ooops... too soon?

Valabik has something our prospect d doesnt and that is a ton of size and nastiness.

We do realize that Valabik was just CUT by the same team that moved Dustin Byfuglien to full time defense right? If he isn't good enough for their organization, what makes him good enough for ours? We've already got one tall piece of garbage, no thanks on adding another.

If we want someone to skate in Chicago that's easily pissed off, promote Kyle Beach.

Valabik really, really, really sucks. I don't think he'd even be an upgrade over Scott.

Cullimore, on the other hand... if Valabik were waived two days ago, I'd claim him in a heartbeat just as a fill-in.

Pepin isn't that nasty/tough

He is more like Hal Gill type dman

Absolutely not. Would rather see any of Vish, Connelly, or Lalonde up then watch this stunted prospect play in a foreign system.

I would rather see Valabik playing role of #6 or 7 then a talentless hack like Scott

I think it's pretty clear Scott is done. I think Hendry deserves the spot more than him, but he sucks too.

I would like to see

Keith - Seabs
Hammer - Leddy
Vish - Boynton
Hendry

I don't see the Hendry hate. He's not incredible defensively but he can rush the puck and make decent passes as long as they don't span across the ice. He fits much better with our team than Scott and I feel like he's a good fit to have alongside Boynton. I'd like to see him as our extra d-man once Campbell returns and Scott launched to the moon:

Keith-Seabs
Hammer-Campbell (Leddy until he returns)
Hendry (Leddy once Soupy's back)-Boynton
*Hendry

I'm not sure Valabik is even much of an upgrade on Scott. Younger yes, but just hasn't ever figured out a system for any team. On a short term basis, I am fine with Scott getting 2-4 minutes a game, until people start to get healthy again.

No interest in Valabik, even if he is an upgrade, its a very scant one.

What do you guys think about putting in a claim for Valabik if he were to go on waivers?
