There are two things you can notice if you watch closely.

1. Rypien shoves Henrik Sedin when he puts his hand on his shoulder to calm him down.

2. When Rypien attacks the fan Sedin just casually looks back and rather than getting involved to stop or support his teammate just steps onto the ice and skates away.

He is a crazy nut...

Always wanted him waived... he is such a joke of a hockey player.

However... Our coach Vigneault has a man crush on him. He had an undisclosed absent for 3 months two years ago for substance abuse.
Still AV... kept him. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a sex scandal come out between AV and Rypien...

Terrible player... a complete joke.. has no respect for the fans.

The rypien thing is being blown out of proportion...... he grabbed the fan, thats it. I agree the players should not get involved with the fans but he did not "assault" him. A fine is what he deserves, a suspension of more than 2 is not right.

Considering what happened with wisnewski I'd have to think this is worse. Plus the fact he pushed a linesman too. I'm saying around 5 games plus or minus 2.

Well legally grabbing someone qualifies as an assault. To think that Rypien is going be treated leniently because he didn't punch the guy's lights out is absurd. You can't touch fans at all, Rypien crossed a line here. Add to that the sucker punch to Staubitz and manhandling the linesman and I would be shocked if Rypien gets less than 10 games.

I guess that's what roids will do to you. I understand Rypien was pissed because of that idiotic linesman, but have some god damn sense man. Guy even pushed his own captain. I don't know if I should laugh or cry when Rypien probably won't get anymore than Wisniewski did. I hope Gillis has enough class to waive his ass.

here is an awesome link with the Canucks broadcaster John Garret

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubhyz...ature=youtu.be

1) Garret falsely accuses the fan of "reaching over" to accost Rypien. The replay clearly shows him standing upright at his seat clapping when Rypien lunges for him.

2) Garret says the fan is slow leaving because he doesn't want to leave his beer when no beer was ever seen.

3) the replay of events prior to the ejection was a disgrace. Rypien is skating back to his bench and cross checks the Wild player for absolutley no reason. He then sucker punches him HARD while the Wild player is being held by the linesman. Almost looks like he is knocked out on his feet. Dirty dirty play.

Garret, you have reached a new low in homerism and that is quite an achievement for you.

That guy's an unbelievable tool. Why is it so hard to find quality, unbiased people working the NHL is beyond me. It just makes watching some of the games so annoying.

Garret has always been an idiot in my mind is always will be my most hated commentator.

A number of years ago he was trying to justify that the people controling the red light in Calgary should hit even if they goal didnt look 100% in. It came after the Flames hit the post, the light came on and the Flames started shooting off so Columbus stopped playing. About 2 players on the ice kept playing and the Flames put it in the net. So Garret said the next day, "they should hit the button, what have they got to lose. Players should know better and should be able to deal with distrations." ...yeah like the red light and flames shooting off above you.

Then there was the time he suggested that anchoring down the nets posts more so they didnt come off easier would be better for play. And it would somehow NOT increase injuries.

****ing idiot.

I thought it was great. It was nice to see some emotion & mayhem, instead of the robots that the boring NHL players have become.

It was really a minor altercation......unlike this one

Nasty...
I would guess he gets
10 games for putting his hands on the ref
10 games for the Fan interaction
2 games for the sucker punch

he deserves all of it too. What a hot head.

It appears as though Rypien's hearing will take place on Friday and since it is an in-person hearing, the suspension will be at least five games in length. Rypien will not be in the lineup Wednesday night as the Canucks face the Minnesota Wild on TSN.

I do not believe he was thinking at the time. And I'm not sure what made him go so crazy. Sure the Canucks were losing big, but it basically started as a standard altercation. Maybe if he had received the punch, while the linesman separated hims and the Wild player, rather than throwing it? But he was hard to control (even his own teammates were trying to control him) even before going after the fan.

What's crazy here is that Rypien was back in the penalty box in the third period, when he should have gotten an automatic game misconduct for the fan incident, via Michael Russo. Rypien didn't have a shift in the third period.

Just read the yahoo article and this really caught me off guard. At least the Nucks never played him, but he should've been tossed from the game.

If it came to either watching hockey with Garrett or not watching again I would honestly take the latter. He is an absolute disgrace to broadcasting.

As for the incident, its disgusting that the fans were removed for this. They did absolutely nothing wrong. Just one of the many reasons the NHL will remain a bush league in the eyes of many North American sports fans.
