Fisher, Kelly, Ruuttu, Lee - to SJ

for

Pavelski, Clowe, Murray

Ottawa gets some scoring, a true second line center, a good size Dman

SJ finally gets the toughness and two way forward type players they need in Fisher and Kelly while sacrificing some of their secondary offense. They get a true agitator in Ruuttu, and Lee is thrown in to give some additional offense on their back end. Going into the playoffs, I think SJ is far more scarier with these three forwards than Pavelski and Clowe.

It is 5am so I could totally be out of my mind as well.

What about something like:

Kovalev+4th
for
Handzus

I think it would make us harder to score on and tougher to play against.

Would anyone else wanna do this?
Kings fans love Handzus. He plays really hard for us. Checks hard and kills penaltys like a pro. We have alot of Centers and youngsters coming up. With the Stoll, Smyth, Williams line clicking Handzus could possibly be expendable if he waived. Though I think Kovalev could only be traded for Souray at the present.

Well luckily real GMs can see a player who put up 38 points in 40 games last year and not ONLY how he's playing right now, I think he would be a hard sell but I'm pretty sure there are teams that would take him on. He is always streaky and he still provides more in 40 games than most people do in a whole year. I can see why L.A wouldnt give up Handzus though.

Lee has to be the one about to be traded. Hopefully we can find a Pouliot for Latendresse type of deal and get something of value.

Sensay blog has a rumour up.

http://sensay.wordpress.com/

Says a solid source out west has the Sens and Minny discussing a Kovalev, Lee for Havlat, Stoner deal. Reason being Minny has soured on Havlat a little and want to get out of his long term deal.

Why would you even post that? Now i'm going to be ignoring class all day. Thanks a lot.

I'd be ALL OVER that trade. Any day of the week, twice on Sundays. I was ok with the Kovalev signing but even at the time I thought "why not just bring back Havlat for the same money".

Obviously I don't actually believe it but any rumor of Havlat (one of my all time favourite players along with ZC) back to Ottawa makes logic take a backseat.

Oh great, let's acquire another crappy contract and a player with an injury history, that's going to kill us in a few years when we have to resign our young guys.

Here’s what I was given, by someone in the league, western based, not Minnie, who claimed this was VERY real;
this part doesn't make sense to me, but if it happened I would be ecstatic

So replace a past his prime slow player by a skilled player with wheels in his prime? We'd be idiots not to do this deal although I doubt it happens.

The injuries are a concern, but if we're going to entertain the thought...

2011 : The only "young guys" who become FA are Smith, Butler and Elliott. All should be able to be resigned with cash to spare as Ruutu and Leclaire become UFA.

Phillips is UFA, hopefully we can sign him to a similar deal. Campoli is RFA, i'd only make a decision on him after this season. If it comes down to it, unload Campoli's RFA rights for whatever pick we can get and use the money to sign Phillips.

2012 : Karlsson, Regin and Foligno are all RFA and hopefully requiring raises. Kelly and Kuba come off the books freeing up 5.9 million, + almost 2.5 million in buyouts coming off the books. Should be plenty to get them signed.

I assume Kuba will be let go. Kelly can either be resigned to perhaps replaced. Winchester is UFA but I can't imagine him costing much if we want him back. Carkner is also UFA, take him or leave him can't see much of a raise though, particularly with a fighter in his early 30's (where they usually drop off/dissapear).

Anyone in the minors/prospect category should not be too hard to resign.

2013 : Wiercioch, Cowen, Rundblad, all need new contracts but Alfredsson, Gonchar, Fisher, Neil, become UFA, Gonchar and Alfie probably retrire. Plently of flexibility.

2014 : Too much speculation would be needed to make a guess but right now only Spezza and the theoretical Havlat pickup are signed for that season.

Of course it won't happen, 99.99% of deals are never broken by random blogers that no one knows about.

Kovalev being involved in any trade makes no sense. Who would want him?

And I like the guy!

Well, if they're trying to get rid of a long term contract, it's a deal that makes sense. They could simply waive Kovalev and he's off the books at the end of the year.

I'm sure the Oilers would also LOVE to deal Souray for Kovalev.

Lee going to Minny makes sense, Lee is a Minnesota native.

I can see a team acquiring Kovalev to get rid of a longer contract, with a similar cap hit. Both Kovy and Havlat have a 5 mil cap hit.

Kovalev is in his last year of his contract.

Just give them Lee to take Kovy off our hands....PLEASE...we'll take Havlat or equivalent salary...

...and that allows a team with an even worse prospect of a bad contract for several more years (Souray, Redden, Havlat, etc) to walk away clean in April after putting up with Kovalev for another 6 months.

I am intriqued by Havlat, but not to the point I want to divest us of next years CAP totals (with no Leclair, Kovalev, Ruutu)

Yup, and Souray has one more year after that. They're already burying Souray in the minors. They'd simply bury Kovalev also but they would be done with the contract at the end of year.
