Until Markov is back and has played 10-12 games I wouldn't try and trade anybody on defense. If there is one area where you can never have too much it's back there.

Also, I don't see a need here at center, plus I don't see the Rangers trading any of those 3 guys for the players we would want to move as excess(Spacek/O'byrne/Picard).

To Anaheim: Ryan O'Byrne for a mid-tier prospect or a mid-round draft choice (much like the Chipchura trade). We wouldn't be getting a lot but I just don't see OB breaking into the Montreal lineup on a regular basis. We already have a logjam on the blueline, Weber is knocking on the door and who knows what is happening with Emelin.

The logjam is more in offensive d-men/puck movers than in guys like O'byrne, especially once Gill/Hamrlik move on, that's why they drafted Tinordi, but he's still 3-4 years away.

To NYI: Ben Maxwell + 4th round pick
To Mtl: Bruno Gervais + 6th round pick

Gervais has been in the doghouse lately on Long Island but the guy has the potential to be a rock solid d-man. He's got decent size, he's smart, mobile, and intense. Makes a good first pass. He shoots right. Habs lack depth on D and Gervais would help fill some of the void. Plus, I see him developing late, kind of like Robidas and Beauchemin.

Gervais is in the doghouse, because he sucks.

Markov*
Hamrlik
Spacek
Subban
Gill
Gorges
Picard
O'bryne

and if need be
Weber
Carle.

We lack d depth how ? O'bryne is currently sitting in the press box and he's a right handed, intense, physical dman. We don't need to give anything up for Gervais, when we already have something like him.

Gervais doesn't suck. I played against him in the Q and he's one of the best I've seen. He played great in his first couple NHL seasons but since Gordon's been behind the bench he's had confidence issues.

Who do we have like Gervais? Gorges is probably the closest in style. If you mean O'Byrne, then you don't know anything about Gervais because they are very different players. Gervais, at his full potential, is basically a Dan Hamhuis type of player. A calm, poised, minute eating dman who is very steady and makes a great first pass. O'Byrne is a mobile, physical dman whose first pass usually narrowly misses the scoreboard and who has very little hockey sense.

How is Maxwell a better player than a guy who, at 26, has played 4 full seasons in the NHL?

If Gervais can't crack the Isles defense with Streit out, we want no part of him.

Because he is still developing and the guy with 4 NHL seasons sucks.

Luongo for Price and Subban

Both tenders here could benefit with a change of scenery. Price and Subban get it done for the Habs, they will then be sit in goal for the next 7 years.

Thoughts?

Lol no from the Habs.

Its impossible salary wise anyways... Canucks would have to take on Hamrlik or Spacek at least and add some value imho.

Oh, and I'd stop watching the Habs for a while if it happened. Trading Subban is a ''kill Gauthier!!!'' worthy action.

I wouldn't even trade Price for Luongo. I'd throw myself in front of a high speed metro before that trade happens.

No chance in hell. Price had better stats than Luongo last year in an off year.

Interesting proposal. Let me counter with:

The Sedin brothers for Spacek and Hamrlik.

I would rather keep Price and his contract than have Luongo and his contract, never mind adding Subban to the trade.

No thanks.. I'd rather keep Price and be set in goal for the next 10-12 years and keep PK and have a potential top 2 dman for the next 15 years..

That trade doesn't help the Habs short term and long term.

I wouldn't even trade Price for Luongo straight up. Price is cheaper now and much younger.
