This is what I was afraid of... some loophole that would allow him to stay. Perhaps it is not in violation because it isn't "new" contract? Only merely an extension.
Radulov was suspended for failing to live up to the terms of his contract and therefore he is not rewarded with earning time towards free agency. Radulov has one-year remaining on his Nashville contract and then becomes a restricted free agent and is free to sign anywhere (like Hudler did last season).
If two parties sign a contract and one party refuses to live up to the terms they agreed to, they are not rewarded...
The IIHF is a total and complete joke if they ratify this deal, but I don't have a high opinion of them as it is...so...whatever...
Its cool. Let them steal a player from us who was a big part of our team and would have been an even bigger part of our team if he came back. If they let this happen and we dont get anything in return then thats ****ed up.

Hockey contracts, at least in the NHL, are new contracts every time.
The only recourse would be if the IIHF and Court of Arbitration for Sport suddenly evolve to having a backbone. I doubt it happens.

Yeah, but maybe they are different in Russia or something. Who knows.
Maybe I'm giving them too much benefit of the doubt, but would they really pull a move like this without any legal argument what-so-ever? There's got to be some fine print somewhere that allows them to do this

There wasn't any basis when UFA signed him originally ... why have a legal basis now?

He already broke his Predator contract. Why would they care if that continues? They wouldn't...
At worst he can't play in international tournaments. They still keep him in their league.

Sure there was. They argued that the agreement was in fact NOT in place yet when he signed. To that point, there was only a handshake agreement. No written or signed documents yet. I also heard that the contract was signed even before the "handshake" agreement.

So .. by your own words .. there was no transfer agreement therefore no legal basis.
yes everyone knows that Salavat Yulaev without Radu would be completly another team he's a backbone of that team the whole team was builded around him since he came here..but just wow...just wow
the whole city is buzzling about that news, i've recieved message from fans movement they gonna celebrate it on a weekend drink and cheer for Radu and so on saying it's the happiest day in their lives
yea i'm a fan of SY but still can't say what i feel about it i was so sure that he was going overseas next year. i know he loves our city i know the president of Bashqortostan calling him to say good morning Alex how are you? i can imagine how great it feels to be adored by a million population city but still..
well we'll see how the agreement of NHL/KHL will work here or it won't..

You know, I'm really not that mad about this. It's clear this move by Rads, if true, shows his highest priorities are money, being comfortable and being the big fish in a small pond. Theres nothing wrong that. Not everybody is born with the intense desire to be the best of the best and be a legend in the best league in the world. Yeah it sucks for us but good luck to Radu. I'll still look forward to seeing him in International play
Well I was very curious to see what a team like ours would look like with Radulov closer to his prime. Hes that 1 asset we truly need, a Sniper!! Well I wont ever forgive him for ditching his NHL contract and all of Nashville, but I hope he does well and hope he doesnt get to play in the next olympics for this decision. But still, I hope he does well
Feel bad for the Predators. Everyone seems to be downplaying how great Radulov is, but he could easily be a 90 point player in the NHL if he wanted to. Within a year I have no doubt he'd be top 5 in the Right-Wing position. Really ****** loss though.
