Meh, Ballard and Hamhuis ain't that good, neither. All three are flawed but pretty solid players. Salaries aside, I'd probably take Bieksa.

Carter trade makes no sense, Carter is not good on the wing and Nucks are set with Henrik and Kessler for their top 2 Cs, plus Bieksa + Hodgson is just TERRIBLE value for Carter. Moving Bieksa certainly makes sense for the Nucks, but my guess is he goes to a team desperate for d like the Ducks if he goes anywhere at all.

Carter can't play wing. So you'd have to go with the second setup.

Anyways, I don't doubt for a second Dreger or that the Canucks will move Bieksa, but that Carter rumour sounds dubious. I don't put doubt past our management to do that though.

If you honestly believe that bolded statement, you haven't seen them play this season or in our system.

Salaries aside, i'd take both over Bieksa. I have yet to watch a regular season game or period, where i've thought to myself "Good Lord, Ballard and/or Hamhuis are our worst defensemen." The same can not be said for Bieksa. He has his good periods, however, too often those good periods are separated by 5-6 horrid periods.

hasn't philly stated that they won't trade Carter?

anyway, if Vancouver gets Carter the other teams in the West are in serious trouble

that explains why he's getting top pairing minutes. He certainly doesn't deserve them.

I thought we all decided already that he was getting top pairing minutes with Hamhuis to pad his stats so that we could trade him for big return

First off, this isn't going to happen. Carter won't be moved, and if he is, I doubt Kevin Bieksa is part of the package. However, I'll go down this road again: Cory Schneider. Guy has looked pretty good, and I wouldn't be shocked if he ended up in Philly at one point or another.

How's this sound (my guess is not good, but anyways): Carter and Bob (sp?) for Hodgson, Schneider and Bieksa (and I assume a high draft pick)...

But to end on a realistic note, not gonna happen.

Hopefully though there is some validity to the "Bieksa getting traded ASAP" part.

Funniest thing is that many of us can see that Bieksa doesn't deserve nearly all the criticism he's getting this season. Playing 20+ minutes (stupid AV) and paired with Hamhuis. He has 0 points in 7 games.

Bieksa to the habs only works if either the Nucks are taking back Spacek (or Hamrlik), or if the habs have another deal lined up to move one of those two.

I don't see any way Carter gets dealt to Vancouver. None.

... perhaps you ought to watch the Canucks because you make completely inaccurate nonsense statements such as the one above. The difference between the level of talent between Ballard/Hamhuis and Bieska is akin to make comparing Kostitsyn or Raymond to Ovechkin. It is just beyond superiority. Bieska has been awful for years now.

Salary aside, I believe I can speak for particularly every Canucks fan when I say, we would be delighted with neither in exchange for Bieska. I would weep for my Hab brethren however and cheer as a Nucks fan. I rank on Spacek and Hamrlik frequently, but in comparison to Bieska? I will love him.

...yes, I'm a Canucks fan. That being said, Bieksa would likely slot into the second pairing.
