I've always seen something in this guy and I've always wanted the habs to give him a chance. I remember one year during the playoffs I was following the nucks pretty closely and this guy was a monster. Then after that he sort of dropped off the radar for a bit.
Would LOVE to see this guy in Montreal. Could really help the team imo.
Mostly because of cap issues. Signing Ballard and Hamhuis while only losing Mitchell in the off season makes bieksa and his salary expendable.
So the canucks definitely wont be interested in spacek. Something like O'Byrne and a pick could work but I'm not sure if that works with montreal's cap. Anyways, OB goes back to his home province, and could use a change of scenery to rejuvenate his career. I think OB is the kind of player that Gillis likes, and obviously, the cap hit is alot smaller. The draft pick would probably have to be no less than a 3rd imo.
Then again, this leaves the question as to who sits when markov comes back.
Well then like a lot of good teams we'd have 7 NHL level D on the squad. I don't think with injuries etc it's too far fetched.
Bieksa was a beautiful skater, but his injury really slowed him down. I like him quite a lot, but his cap number's too high. Vancouver would have to take some overpriced weight back for him just to make it work.
Bieksa has been a minus player for all his NHL career. It would be foolish for Gauthier to land him as a short-term Power-Play solution. The only player I could see ending up here is Burrows but I'm not entirely sure Mike Gillis agrees with that statement!
I would welcome him with open arms. As has been said he would be the new Souray with a weaker shot. Maybe more comparable to a more physical and quick Spacek.
Spacek and Maxwell going the other way would be a-ok with me
We can always try to trade spacek to somebody else. I would be surprised if nobody would take a chance for spacek. If not, we can burry him in the minors. I prefer having Bieksa in the Line up than spacek for sure.
Who would be moved to create the cap space. We can't demote Spacek and he probably has less than zero trade value. Moving a bunch of depth players and prospects doesn't help. That means it would have to be someone with a relatively big contract who is on the current roster. I believe Hamrlik might still have a no trade contract, so the options are rather limited.

Spacek signed his last contract when he was over 35 years of age. We can demote him but the contract still counts against the cap. Next idea.
I would be so happy to see Spacek go the other way in exchange but it won't happen, not to Vancouver anyways and if he is part of this trade then there will be 3 teams involved.Canucks don't want or need Spacek

Correct, Canucks need $$ and Spacek makes more than Bieksa..
