If you take away Cote's salary, Shelly only costs us about 500k per season. That's how I will digest it.

what is the over/under do when he is a healthy scratch? wonder if Shooter is forcing the coaches hand(probably not)? He adds no value right now.

Which is humorous, given that his value diminishes as the year progresses.

pretty much. How hard is it for Shooter understand this? You do need a tough guy. however you dont give one 3 year deal. Those guys should always, for the most part, have 1 year deals for little more than league min. Exactly what boston did with Mcrgatton is what you do. He would have been fine on a 1 year deal playing 30 games, if that.

Indeed... the amount of cash irritates me, but it's the number of years I find particularly galling.

What happens if Shelley takes a couple of bad beatings, la Fedoruk, and while not technically injured becomes useless for the one role he has? Can he be sent down?

Yeah, he's 34 so no problem there.

Cool they play the Rangers and the Boogie man Nov 4th...hopefully Boogie man "sends him down" and allows the Flyers to exercise their right as well...

Can somebody please answer Bill's question...because I sure can't

Quote:
* Someone please explain to me again why the Flyers are paying Jody Shelley so much money to play an average 4:12 per game. Last night, he skated five shifts and played just 2:05. He lost his fight with George Parros, although it was a pretty good battle. Parros eventually got Shelley off balance. No big deal there -- it wasn't lopsided by any means -- but the team is paying him as though he will provide as much or more of what Arron Asham gave the team. He hasn't do so yet.

I don't blame Shelley or Peter Laviolette in this regard. I think the GM over-valued the player. Shelley has been a fourth liner most of his career, only rarely being moved into the type of third-line role he played at the tail end of last season for the Rangers. Could he do well in the former Asham role for the Flyers? Perhaps, but he has been a fourth liner the vast majority of his career, and that's how he's being used.

Holmgren thought he might've had a lesser Ian Laperriere; a thought which I assume was based primarily on two games when you look at Shelley's career.

At this point, getting Nodl back into the top 9 was absolutely the correct division. He's looked good and at home when on the ice with skilled players. He made a number of good plays yesterday.

That said, Carcillo should not remain a healthy scratch while Shelley is in the lineup. Unless Carcillo did or said something stupid behind the scenes and this is some sort of punishment or message, the fact that Shelley is in there ahead of Carcillo is inexcusable.

Sad and imo no doubt true. Agree with mostly everything. Will give Nodl a few more games to see if he can bring any offense. If not Back to the drawing board.

after watching buff bully his way through the playoffs homer wanted to bring some size to the lineup and shellys play against us was still on his mind. lavi took one look at him said "goon" and forgot all about it. think its a clear case of a gm and coach having different views on a player and in this case lavi hasnt yet given homer the chance to see how wrong he was.

I'm really struggling to see how Carcillo is often being scratched, but Shelley remains. He offers nothing that Carcillo doesn't do better, Danny is basically Shelley with some forward ability.

It's senseless.

There's more to that story than we likely know.

Other than Leighton, Jody Shelley is the worst hockey player I have ever seen
