My gut says yes. Backstrom played well, but not well enough to be considered the hot hand plus he needs a rest.
EDIT: Hey I think this is the first time we've hit 500 in a GDT!

If it makes you feel any better, tonight's game was horribly frustrating to watch...

If my stat-check is right, we're a .500 team for the first time since March 2009!

PLAN THE PARADE!

Depends on Richards. He is trying to keep the motivation high along with the winning streak. Theo needs to start though...

Theo will start tomorrow, unless richards wants to kill Backstrom.

Anybody want to give a summation for someone that just got back and doesn't want to read through a GDT?

Who played well?
Who didn't?
Good game? Worth watching on DVR?

Watch the first period, and the last 2 minutes of the 3rd (to see a great empty netter).

The refs were horrid, and made everything after the first extremely frustrating to watch.

Backs was shaky at first, but had a great 2nd and 3rd (particularly given all the PK time).

Burns and Barker both had great defensive games.

Falk continued to be good, yet unspectacular.

Brodziak had a great first period.

Lats, Cullen and Havlat were great still.

Koivu still looks sick. Mittens is still Mittens. Bruno hardly seemed to play, given all the PK time.

That's about it.

Ten penalties on Minnesota, Edmonton couldn't finish and the Wild were able to starve off a late comeback. Burns ended that with an 180 foot ENG off the half wall.

-Brodziak, Lats, Cullen, Backstrom and the entire PK played well.
-Kobasew, Nystrom were two that stuck out in my mind.
-Not really a good game to go back and watch, although the first period is decent. All those penalties killed the flow.

This is great to hear. I had Burns pegged for a big comeback year and hoped Barker was better then he showed last year. So far, I've been impressed by both.

Hmm, I think I remember a game a couple years ago when he did that against us. Feast or famine guy. This might have been the first game this year where he got his name mentioned.

This game was painfully hard to watch. Penalties were annoying. Barker makes me nervous on defense. He likes taking interference penalties instead of moving his feet. I hope that won't continue. BURNZIE IS THE MAN!

I don't believe Barker took a penalty tonight.

That phenomenal thread was linked at HF Oilers last year. Probably the funniest thing I've seen on these boards yet. Great job on that. Hopefully it won't happen again.

I'll be honest I was drinking and screwing around with my hockey sticks the whole game, so I didn't watch closely.

From what I saw, they were refusing to move their feet and as a result took bad interference penalties all game. Because of that, they had no benefit of the doubt from the refs.

Hall looks REALLY close to breaking through. He needs confidence, he's adjusting, and when he does look out. Great shot.

I think I figured it out with Havlat. Dude freezes when he has the puck and that gives the goalie time to square up. Several times I saw him get the puck in the slot with a shooting lane only to wait half a second and THEN shoot. Usually that's a confidence thing, so I'd expect it to go away when he gets that first goal.

Otherwise not a lot going on. Koivu and Bruno working hard, Lats and Havlat working hard, and the 3rd/4th liners were forechecking hard. Miettinen looked terrible. I'm not sure if he's this bad every game but every time he touched the puck he took a shot on net from a completely horrible angle. You're not going to score taking a wrister from the boards at the top of the circle. Just hold on to the puck or drag it in deeper to the zone to let your teammates set up. Bad angle shots just mean turnovers. And his passing was atrocious, right into the skates every time. Ugh.

On defense, I liked Zidlicky more than the rest. Barker, Falk, and Zanon were okay, Zanon made more mistakes than usual. The last couple games the Burns-Schulz pairing has kind of ticked me off. They seem to get too deep in their end without forcing the shooter to the outside, almost as if they're relying on Backstrom making that first save.

And Backstrom was just fantastic. Kept the Wild in it when they didn't seem to have the effort.

I hate Peckham. Maybe that's what he's supposed to do, but the D-bag turns his back while skating towards the puck to draw a penalty. Bush league. Cheap shots at guys like the elbow up high on Clutter, who always keeps his hands down.

noticed that about Peckham last year. he also sent Mittens helmet flying with his elbow. yeah, he's my new most-disliked oiler (used to be Stortini).

Stortini is just a big putz on skates. Much like Booagaard. But he can't fight worth a damn so I'm not even sure what his purpose is.

At least Peckham is at least a half decent defenseman. Compared to the other Oilers defenders that is...
