Jordan Caron does not look one bit slow on the ice. He's playing great so far.

Spooner earned first star tonight with three goals (last one was an empty netter with a second left) and an assist.

Zach Trotman has already established a new career high (NCAA) for goals in a season just four games in.
Of course, we're talking a previous best of just two goals, but still three scores in four games is pretty good for a d-man.

Ryan Spooner Putting Up Big Numbers in OHL

NESN article by Doug Flynn

Quote:
After putting together a strong first pro camp in Boston, Spooner hasn't slowed at all in the OHL. Through seven games, he has 7-6-13 totals. On Thursday, he tallied three goals and an assist in a 6-4 win over Kitchener, scoring the game-winner at 18:45 of the third, then completing the hat trick with an empty-netter at 19:59.

Speaking of the Providence Bruins, I wonder if it wouldn't benefit Joe Colbourne and the Providence team if he was switched back to center?

Severstal beat Dinamo Minsk 2-1 in OT. Chudinov got the only assist on the game winner.

10 points in 17 games now

Seems as if he is off to a slow start? anyone actually seen Colbourne play this year - is he playing slow or just a little snake bitten

Why was Craig Cunningham sent back to Junior and not kept in Providence? He turned 20 in September, he put up 97 points last year, looked great in development camp, and he's putting up better than 2 points per game right now.

I think Providence could use him. Can they call him up?

Now that he's back in juniors he can't be called up until the Giants' season is done. As to why he was sent to juniors in the first place my guess would be they didn't see room for him in Providence this year and because he was just drafted there's no rush to get him signed.

The Great Enigma, Carl Soderberg, is now leading the SEL-2 in scoring:

13 gp, 4 goals, 15 assists, 19pts.

Would love to see him come over next year and make a play for a Top 9 LW position.

Good question. He was already an overage Junior and the Providence Bruins are hardly swamped with talent at forward. He ought to be skating right now on a line with Colbourne.

I wondered this too when he was sent back to Vancouver. Because IMO there's not really anything he can learn at that level anymore. Only reason I can think of why he was sent back, is that Chia was either planning on signing someone else, or wanted it to be possible to take one contract more in a trade, than he'd send out during the season. Bruins have 49 contracts according to capgeek and the maximum is 50.

Either they felt that he wasn't ready or that it would be better for his long term for his development to get 150 points

or they remember signing Wacy Rabbit early and blew a year of his ELC when he wasn't ready and went back to junior, he was just starting to get "it" when his deal was up and they let him go, they could have used him last year

Speaking of Cunningham, he is the WHL player of the week:

http://www.whl.ca/article/giants-cun...er-of-the-week

Quote:
Cunningham picked up 9 points, scoring one goal and eight assists to go with a +6 rating, in three games over the past week, helping the Giants to a 3-0-0-0 record.

I missed development camp, so I only have the 2 rookie games to go on, but I thought he left a lot to be desired in those games and wasn't surprised to see him go back to juniors.

Still happy to see him ripping it up in the WHL, though, and hope next season he starts a career that begins better than Yannick Riendeau's.

Right on.

Could he have been in Providence this year?

Sure. But I would say that it's telling that he was returned to junior given that Providence's head coach was the guy most involved with him during D-camp and the rookie portion of camp.

If Rob Murray green-lighted the move back to Vancouver this season, then it was probably for the best. Let him be a captain and continue to play on the top line there under Don Hay, rather be thrust into a role where he is expected to score when he may not yet quite be ready for that kind of an impact at the AHL level.

Providence isn't always the automatic answer for some of these guys, and I for one, don't have a single issue with it. Eric's bringing up of Wacey Rabbit is a good point.

Just listened to a podcast on Oilers lunch, a Kamloops writer says Cunningham is the best player in the WHL so far this year. He believes the reason the B's didn't sign him was related to the 50 contract limit as someone mentioned earlier.

He's a 20 year old in his 5'th year in the league, as was Riendeau. These guys tend to put up a pile of stats...

Yes. And nearly 3 ppg in the '09 playoffs.
