Possible Gagne Trade At 2010 Draft

This article speculates that Gagne was being shopped to Columbus for the 4th draft pick.

Quote:
A scene at the entry draft was shown between Oilers General Manager Steven Tambellini and owner Daryl Katz discussing Columbus General Manager Scott Howson and the 4th overall pick. In this scene the Flyers get mentioned.

The scene is as follows:

Tambellini was meeting with Katz at the entry draft. Katz mentions Kevin (Lowe) was talking to Scott (Howson) and was wondering if there was something there (in regards to a trade). Tambellini mentions that yeah he was talking about the 4th pick. Katz asks what he (Howson) wants for it. Tambellini mentions well from Philly he was talking about moving the 4th pick if *name censored* was made available. Katz then responds ” so he is going to give up the pick and take on 5 and a half million?” Tambellini questions “yeah, Scotty is going to do that?” Katz then says give me a break and we move on to the next scene.
The article is about the documentary that the Oilers have been doing. Kinda interesting to see that Holmgren had been exploring a trade that could of had more, if not, equal value for Gagne (assuming that it was Gagne that was the one that is being mentioned above)

I would imagine they were discussing Carter not Gagne.

Carter, and if I remember correctly it was rumored to be 4th (Ryan Johansen) + Nikita Filatov.

If Gagne was willing to waive his NTC. Outside of Rick Nash, why would he want to go to Columbus?

Clearly this was not for Gagne, and if it was, there was no way CBJ would ever do this. Nothing against Simon Gagne, but I can't imagine any team (especially a team that is rebuilding) would trade a 4th overall pick for an injury riddled player on the downslope of his career. Again, nothing against Gagne, but think of it this way, at the trade deadline this year would you want to trade our first for him? I wouldn't.

The 4th overall pick for Gagne?

Jeez, some of you need to take off the orange glasses. I love Gagne, but his value was a 2nd round pick at best. Maybe a late first if you are talking with an idiot GM.

4th overall had to be Carter. No doubt in my mind. Either straight up of with something else from Columbus (and no Shafer, I highly dought they "throw in" Filatov).

Thank god that homer didn't have a first.

Everyone in this thread said it was carter not Gagne. I guess we should put on the orange glasses before taking them off eh?

Those comments imply that at least some people thought it was for Gagne.

Especially since, you know, this is a GAGNE thread, not a Carter thread.

I dont think we wouldve picked Johansen with that 4th but I think the deal was Carter for 4th overall, Filatov, and Tyutin/Hejda.

Mind you this was before we got Meszaros and O'Donnell.

If you had read the first post, you would of seen that it said that it could of been gagne that was bein talked about.

If you had read the article, you would of figured out that even they werent certain if it was Gagne or not.

Just as an aside, there was that phone call to the Oilers table during Oil Change where they were offered the 4th for Eberle. Tambollini hung up the phone and laughed. I know it has nothing to do with Gagne or Carter, but it does show how difficult it is to move these higher priced players. Allot of teams want young prospects instead. BTW, the Flyers have done an outstanding job with a few of the last few pick in Giroux!!! and JVR!!! Go Flyers!...now get a friggin goalie already

Is Eberle a "higher priced player"? He's still young and on his ELC yeah?

I would hope if that happened they would have stayed away from Zherdev.
Zherdev and Filatov on the same team? I would lose track of the amount of oddman rushes going the other way with those 2 on the team

I'm guessing we wouldn't have acquired Zherdev if we got Filatov. Maybe though?
