ashbee: great flyers' dman. basically gives an eye for the team on the way to a stanley cup win. helps coach the team to another stanley cup win.

lindros: no cups. lots of drama. burned every single bridge he could find on the way out.

no what i was ripping was Ashbee has had his banner up for how many years now? Now as a marketing gimmick to sell tickets they have an ashbee banner night. Ashbee was a little before my time and from all accounts was a good dman, not great though. Had he not passed away and his other sacrfices would his jersey have been retired base don his play? i dont know?

For lindros it was tongue in cheek. He belongs in the flyers HOF. No doubt. The fact that he isnt in is a disgrace. Snider and comp need to stop acting like babies, granted eric brought a lot of that on himself. Jersey retired probably not. Just get sick thinking baout what could have been with him and if he played today how dominat he would be and no one would be clsoe.

I see what you meant NWO. I was thinking the same thing. Like, when were the Clarke, Parent and Barber "Banner" Ceremonies... Is that different from a Jersey retirement? Or the same thing.

Either way, whatever.

ah, now i see what you mean. lindros will have his own banner someday. but it will either be after snider dies, or eric's parents die. that's my guess. as for jersey retirement, im pretty sure it's unofficially retired.

There will be pregame ceremonies for Barber, Clarke and Parent in future games. These events are simply transferring the banners that hung in the Spectrum's rafters to the family/players prior to the demolition of the facility.

Ashbee had a series of misfortunes starting with this scene:

But also his ultimate demise when Leukemia was diagnosed during his time as an Assistant Coach, a position given to him because of the eye injury. The team established some of its tradition in Ashbee's memory including its annual Defenseman of the Year Award and more importantly its annual Wives' Fight for Lives Carnival.

Sadly they probably wont put their diff aside, at least until the flyers need to sell tickets next year for a game against the blue jackets!

For the jersey i wonder if some hotshot free agent or drafted player wanted it if they would hand it out?

i think at this point, 88 is considered a cursed number, possibly forever.

We may never see another person wear number 88 in a Flyers uniform.

The reason he wore 88 was because his chosen number of 8 was already in usage by Iain Fraser when Lindros got to Oshawa in the Juniors. He also said that he wore 88 because ex-referee John McCauley (whose son Wes is a ref), a family friend, died in 1988 (actually it was 1989) but the sentiment was there.

I generally have a bad record against the Sabres. And I'll be there tonight. So I apologize in advance.

Just an FYI, guys, Rob Niedermayer will miss tonight's game because he stayed in Buffalo for the birth of his child. The Sabres have recalled rookie Luke Adam to take his spot. Let's hope he duplicates Ennis' success in his first career game, also against the Flyers.

Good luck, guys.

i have ryan miller in net for fantasy, so that likely means the flyers will net 47 goals on him

LET'S GO FLYERS!!
hopefully he didnt make the players on this stacked team cry with his po'd attitude following the game.

It's really difficult to feel positive going into this game; though, the last time I felt this way, the Flyers played one of their best games of the season against Toronto.

Flyers are having severe Stanley Cup hangover, and have forgotten what kind of play got them there. Pronger should be demoted to the second PP unit until he's playing like himself. Shelley should be banished to the bottem of the sea

if you start your backup goalie you guys shouldnt have a problem. the Flyers are winless against backups this year. 0-3 I believe.

Playing mediocre for 80% of the season and then starting to try in the playoffs?

I think they remember all too well.

Good question. Inquiring minds wanna know...

Any "Average Joe the goalie" = Jacques Plante vs. the Flyers.
