I asked CapGeek this earlier on Twitter and just got a response...

@JerseyCursed Assuming Bartulis is on a conditioning loan, he continues to count against the Flyers' cap and 23-man roster limit.

When you loan a player to the AHL, they can only play a limited amount of games before they MUST be recalled. You cannot simply keep a guy down there all year. Bartulis while down there counts against the cap too. big difference to waiving a player

Basically. Carle is playing better than most of our D, despite fact he's been forced to play the right side, instead of his usual left. Pronger's knee is so bad he can't pivot to the right, so he can't play RD without turnstiling on everyone who goes wide. So they switched sides, and Carle has to cover for Pronger up the middle as well as skate back for all the pucks, skate the puck out etc. He's playing fine. The same morons who don't understand hockey always think smart, subtle players like Carle such. Life at the HF.

Carle is playing on a side he's not used to with a player that should be on IR. That's a tough ask of anyone. Put Mez or Coburn in the same situation and they will have the same problem. Carle was fantastic with Mez the first two games, and now he's stuck with a one-legged pylon that can't get back on defense.

I agree. Carle looks to have grown up a bit, and you can see Pronger still doesn't quite have his legs under him. That said, everyone looked pretty good tonight.

Probably just once, but im not sure.

Really he should be alternating with O'D, put O'D in for tougher teams. He has been pretty bad and im sure some rest now and then would do his old body some good

Sean has been ok, dont think he has been bad, but yes they should rest him here and there as i am sure he will be in the lineup should this team make the playoffs.

I think Carle's been okay and he will be fine down the road, but let's stop pretending with this point. He played RD when he got traded here, and that's hardly to blame for his blown coverages early on.

For as much as Carle is paid and how little you get, I don't want to hear about what side of the ice he's playing on.

Ahh...I see we have identified the resident Carle basher. Good to know.

For me to bash him, I would have to be critical beyond rationality.

rank the d from top to bottom on how theyve played this year so far and then again by cap hit and the specific criticism you gave is a bit irrational. if these trends continue into december i could take that statement for sarcasm

I'd go (off of play):

Timonen
Meszaros
Coburn
O'Donnell
Carle
Pronger

Hate seeing Pronger on the bottom but he hasnt been good. I have no doubt he will get back to the top thought after a few more games. Like tonight he looked better then last game.

****** play from higher paid players doesn't mean Carle can't be criticized.

I don't make separate rankings. You're either playing well or your not. Carle is ok when the puck is nowhere near him positionally, but he is Randy Jones-bad when the puck is on his stick.

That's a bit much. I don't clench my glutes nearly as much nowadays. When Randy Jones was a Flyer, I looked as good as Mike Rowe in my jeans.
