I'd be envious if our team wasn't playing like crap. Not worth driving out to the arena and paying for over-priced food if I'm not confident that we have a quality product out there.

True, but the difference is that my "drive out to the arena" is about 9 hours.

I know this isn't the right thread, but no one is going to look at the Columbus one now that this is up.

Anyway, I got to see Zherdev and Bobrovsy in person yesterday as they were walking down the street a few hours before the game. First time I've seen a Flyer outside of a rink.

And back on topic, come on boys. At least win tonight so that I'm not totally pissed I had to watch that **** you put on last night.

If I was lucky enough to have Miller, I would start him even when he wasn't playing. He's that ****ing good.

he is. he's been let out to dry by his team a couple times though. not nearly as badly as lundqvist though haha. miller so far seems to allow 2ish goals, and then his team will score one.

Therien was critical of them during last night's broadcast. He emphasized that players generally have a routine which is broken even with what can be perceived as a minimal adjustment such as a half-hour difference.

Your GDT's are insane over here! Nice job, wow.

I predict you guys take this, scoring 4 goals to our 1,2, or 3.

Mom's near Philly, dad's from Philly, and I have a lot of friends in the area so... I'm a half-fan =)

I have heard players criticize afternoon games because of the vast difference to a night game. First time I heard someone say it about a 7:30 start.

I have a tough time buying the afternoon argument, but it's a little easier to understand than complaining over 30 minutes.

Teams like San Jose, Dallas, Colorado, Minnesota and the three western Canadian teams spend several hours more in the air than everyone else. If 30 minutes were something to cry over, free agents would be reluctant to sign with these teams, since their schedules are much more brutal given the time zone changes alone.

I can see what he's saying. Players get into a rhythm and have to adjust. Althought, I think it would happen to west coast teams more wouldnt it?

Dont worry. We will probablly lose 3-0 or 3-1. We cant score goals. Well... maybe since your playing your starter and not a backup (who which we would make look like a legit #1 starter), we might have a better chance of scoring.

Once upon a time the Flyers normal start time was 7:30.

There's no denying the disadvantages for a team like Vancouver especially in the pre-charter travel days. It's one of the reasons the NHL had the balanced schedule in and around the 1979-80 season. Rivalries took a backseat to travel equalities. If you look at the divisional formats (first time the NHL had four divisions) of the mid-70s, that's part of the reason why California based teams had East coast teams in the same divisions to spread that concern.

That said, his point wasn't based on travel, just the routine that players have based on the time of day.

Travel affects routine, though. Therien played in Dallas, so he would have gone through the tough travel schedule and would have seen how it played into his daily routine.

Edit: I would think that issues like travel would weigh on the players more heavily than a 30 minute change in a game's start time. At most, it should be a minor annoyance.

Both the NBA and NHL had frequent 7:30 start times. The change to 7:00 likely serves a dual purpose and one that is mutually satisfying, too. The fan(s) gets to go home earlier, especially on a weeknight, while the team probably sees an increase in in-house food sales. Some fans may be reluctant to eat at an outside facility and risk missing the earlier start time depending on their work schedule and drive.

Watching it on a Veetle channel that is entitled "Phliers/Sabres". I can not understand how someone gets Sabres correct (rather than Sabres) but is able to screw up Flyers so badly.
