For a draft day before the season starts, I would say those are two pretty well rounded teams.

Edit: I will add your second team has a few question marks regarding rookies and possible slumps/AHL conditioning.

Hmm. Datsyuk for Gagne & Connolly? I'm not 100% sure right now, but might be interested once the season starts and I see whose playing with who. Think about it.

Starting a 10-team H2H league on yahoo. Tentative draft is Sunday evening, but definitely flexible on that. Season starts Oct 18th (first option after Oct 7th, and I hate those week-and-a-half start weeks).

Teams are set up like real ones, 4 lines, 3 pairings, 2 goalies, 3 bench. Top four make playoffs (might go to six, flexible on that too).

PM me for info.

Still looking for people to join. Draft will likely be Tuesday or Wednesday, based on concensus.

How many teams are in this league, what was your first round pick, Parise? Broduer? It would seem like a deep league if that were the case. Your strength is definitely in goaltending, and the wings. Your center and D are weak. If this were my team, I would try to unload a package with Broduer for a good C/D. You can ride Kipper and Giggy I think without losing too much if the return on Fatso is there.

Are there prospects available that maybe people overlooked? I would try adding J. Bernier if he's in the FA pool if you dump Broduer in a trade. See if guys like Karlsson, Carlson, and Subban got overlooked and replace Carkner.

It's also hard to assess your needs without knowing what kind of stats/scoring the league is.

It's for the Champion's League.

It's basically a 14 team H-2-H league and I had the 11th pick. Parise was my first pick and Brodeur my second.

The scoring is the following:

Forwards/Defensemen Stat Categories: Goals (G), Assists (A), Plus/Minus (+/-), Penalty Minutes (PIM), Powerplay Goals (PPG), Powerplay Assists (PPA), Shorthanded Points (SHP), Game-Winning Goals (GWG), Shots on Goal (SOG)

Goaltenders Stat Categories: Wins (W), Goals Against Average (GAA), Save Percentage (SV%), Shutouts (SHO)

Carkner is there mostly for the PIMS.

With the exception of J. Bernier. All the players you listed were drafted.

I have gotten Goalie offers, but people have asked to take my one of my top 2 centers and goalie for a top Center and a scrub goalie.

I don't want to hurt my depth at 2 positions to fill one. Plus the league has a cap of 20 transactions for the entire season.

Ah, yeah if it is a PIM thing, he was real good for it last season. With him and Avery I dominated PIM in my roto league all season. Unfortunately I didn't dominate much else.

Well, I guess if you can't get a reasonable return for Kipper, or Marty then you'll have to tough it out at center. Fisher and Conolly aren't bad, but a legitimate playmaking center putting up 70+ points is always nice to have. Maybe Rich "Second coming of Christ" Peverly will have another awesome year.

Edit: Typo, meant 70.

What does the scoring look like? Staal and Bergeron have pretty low fantasy value. Unless NYR decides to give Staal more PP time this year. Erat was a sleeper last year later in the season, and got real hot. I like this team, especially if Detroit stays healthy. Parise/Kovalchuk will make Zajac look like a superstar. Not that he's a slouch himself. If your league counts +/- keep an eye on DZ, there may be better options unless he breaks out this year and goes Mike Green in the scoring department.

the scoring is: G, A, P, PIM, PPP, +/-, SOG. now i know DZ had a really really awful +/- last season, but i figure i can maybe box him in a trade in a month if he seems to be doing okay. Bergeron had 50-60 points last season and the thing that surprised me the most was the fact that he was my last pick of the evening.

as for Staal, that was kind of a homer pick, not to mention all the "scoring" d-men were already taken. i figure since his offense has gotten a little bit better (see: goal against Ottawa lol) he'll be getting a few more points, but i really only picked him up because i know his +/- will be worth him staying. if not, i can package him in a trade right now, which is where i'm stuck...

my friend, who is in this league with me, wants to make a trade. he tried to give me Pavelski and Backes for Franzen. now, i know that's not a bad trade, but if Franzen stays healthy, he's a threat. i feel he's a bigger threat than Backes and possible Pavelski, depending on who he's playing with. i was considering moving Staal and Franzen for Pavelski and someone else, but there are literally no more good d-men, and the only spare forward i could possibly want that's left is Josh Bailey. and MAYBE Ryan O'Reilly.

any advice would be awesome, DW. thanks

have my draft tonight. Been going scoring early, goalies mid, and defense late. Guys like Whitney/Visnovsky/Martin/Karlsson have been left in my mock drafts in the very late rounds. Also my sleep bench defenseman has been Kurtis Foster in every mock.

Yeah, you're right about Bergeron. I went and checked his stats last night after I posted and I didn't realize he had put up that many points last season, he's probably not a bad depth player to have at all, especially if the FA pool is empty. I agree about DZ, and for any managers only watching his point production he would be great trade bait. Hell if he can keep his defense in check and have a respectable +/- I wouldn't even bother trading him. I hope he starts the season off a lot better than his exhibition.

It would definitely be nice if Staal could elevate his offensive game, while staying strong on the backend. Like you said it might not be bad to have him to counteract the +/- of DZ. It's always hard to assess players before they even play their first game, and most people do it on previous fantasy value. If there is nothing better than Staal out there for scoring, keep him, but I wouldn't be afraid to send him to the waiver wire considering most people wouldn't be interested in him. Being a Ranger fan, you'll know when he's getting hot before most others. Unless you are in a league of NYR fans, then you might want to play it safe, haha.

I love Pavelski, and drafted him in 2 of my leagues, but he is not worth Franzen and Backes. Backes will be a decent PIM guy for you and still net a respectable amount of points. I agree completely about Franzen. If he stays healthy he's good for at least 30 goals this year, imo. I wouldn't touch that trade. Unless you can squeeze a good offensive D man out of him. Even then it might not still help you considering you'd have to replace those lost potential PIM. You also have James Neal who is another great PIM guy who will snag 50 points most likely, but him + Backes should keep you competitive in the PIM department all season, except against anyone who has a goon squad, or a guy like Avery on the line-up.

It sounds like your waiver wire is pretty empty, I would keep what you have, and maybe dump DZ later for a sleeper/hot hand if DZ slumps and has an abysmal defensive year.

I've seen the same thing in every draft. In fact I have only seen Martin drafted once, Whitney once, Visnovsky not at all, and Karlsson has gone to me in a late pick in 2 of my drats.

Sorry to beat a dead horse, but tomorrow is the draft, and we need a couple more bodies.

Feel free to let yourself in, I want to make sure to get 8 or 10, and only have 6.

See ya there!

That's pretty damn good, in my opinion, if you're playing head-to-head.

New to hockey? Or new to fantasy hockey?

Decent return, but that's not getting Ovie from me if I were you. You are getting no LW in return leaving a gaping hole in your LW, and you get 2 centers, one of which is a fantasy headache. Gaborik is hurt, and who knows what his tallies will be like after he returns.

I would not do this.

Alright so Ive got a bit of a goaltending issue right now for tonights games:
all three of my Gs play and I can only start two. which of the two would you start?

Price vs NYI
Turco vs LA
Quick vs CHI

Id like to start price vs NYI, as Price has been doing well, and it IS the Isles afterall so I think it comes down to Quick vs Turco. This game could either be REALLY high scoring, or REALLY low scoring depending. Which would you choose? I have until 6:30PM to set rosters. Help a brother out?

This is the kind of situation where I might only start one goalie. Better to just start Price against the Piles, and not risk getting your GAA and S% numbers for the week blown up.
