You can't be too cautious about this. Let him sit out a few weeks, a month, however long he needs. Don't want a Bergeron-type situation on our hands with a potential franchise player.

Brunnstrom-Wandell-Ott is a perfectly good third line in the meantime.

I think I might keep a tally of all of Richards' "maintenance days" this year, since that's something Modano took flak for.

Richards had surgery on his hip over the summer and thus has said he's behind on his training regime. I think this is still part of that process.

This video is mildly interesting. (I know, the hype). In one scene, Daley is running across the parking garage towing what looks to be 90 pounds in weights plus the sled. There is another player pushing and pulling what might be similar weight, but I couldn't tell who it was. The tweet announcing it indicated the d-men were doing this.

Anyways, I found that a bit interesting because I have heard of sled pulling on ice, but I have never heard of it on concrete. And damn that's got to be hard given the weight and resistance on the sled.

If Richards scores like he did last season then I really don't care how many "maintenance days" he takes.

Unless Benn has a history of concussions, my guess is 1-2 weeks from the hit itself. The general rule of thumb is you're not allowed to play until 5-7 days after the symptoms stop, and concussion symptoms take longer to heal the more concussions you get.

Benn had a concussion in his last year of CHL hockey. Not sure if he's had any other ones before that.
I believe that one happened when he had his head down as well.

yup. That's a big blow. I think if Benn was healthy and ready to go Dallas would have a real advantage with offensive depth vs. Detroit. I think it's going to be up to the Ribeiro and Richards lines to both have great games. It can't be one of those games where one one line shows up.

Sucks that Benn is out, hopefully this doesnt because reoccurent, its happening too much lately in the NHL.

I want Benn to be healthy so that takes priority but man that comes at the worst time, my 4th injury now in a $150 hockey pool (150 buy in 12 man)

According to Darren Dreger, there are currently 13 NHL players out with concussion issues. I don't ever remember it being anywhere near like this, and I'm curious as to why.

I think it's partly due to the fact that NHL teams are doing a better job of identifying and treating concussions. Also players are getting bigger and the game is getting faster. I'm not surprised that there seem to be more and more player suffering from concussions and I think that it's largely due to an increased awareness by teams.

That sounds perfectly sensible. Good call.

I'm ok with Benn sitting out and getting better rather than rushing back and causing further problems for himself. He's young and there's no point in him ruining what could potentially be a good career.

Plus, it's early enough in the season to not be a major concern.

Jamie Benn (concussion-like symptoms) went through a full practice and looked good. He's day-to-day. He'll be traveling with the team on the trip to Florida and if he isn't ready by Monday he looks like a good possibility by Thursday.

"We'll probably make a decision on him tomorrow. He looked very good today," Stars coach Marc Crawford. "He's really chomping at the bit. He's doing some extra skating [today], so you're really trying to ramp him up and push him to the limits to make sure there is no counter-reaction to what's been happening. So far he's cleared all the steps along the way. He's progressing and we'll make the decision tomorrow. I would think for sure by Thursday."

As expected, the Stars sent Fabian Brunnstrom to the Texas Stars. They also recalled center Aaron Gagnon from Texas. Stars GM Joe Nieuwendyk said Gagnon will probably play Monday against Tampa Bay. Crawford said Gagnon should help on the trip.

"We're playing against some good skating clubs in Tampa Bay and in Florida. We wanted to make sure we had a real good skating forward," Crawford said. "Aaron played so well for us in the preseason. We have a lot of confidence in him."

Steve Ott did not practice today. Crawford said Ott was a little sore and needed a maintenance day. Crawford said Ott will play Monday in Tampa.
Looks like we can expect him back Thurs at the latest. I'd rather wait and make sure he's 100% OK, and have him sit Monday.

Apparently Ott has a lower-body injury, so that's a bit stronger phrasing than just being "sore", but it seems he's going to keep playing anyway.

Krys Barch took a puck off the hand in Saturday's game, has received treatments, responded well and went through a full practice today.
Shoot harder Daley.

Kari to start his 9th game in a row against LA despite having his worst outing of the year.

Morrow and Grossman both sat out practice with soreness.

Wow.

Really tempting fate here riding Lehtonen so much.

When will we see Raycroft, every 10 games?

Well, judging from Crawford's quotes about the schedule, the only time he appears to view it as appropriate to start Raycroft is on the 2nd night of back-to-backs. And he didn't even do that for the first back-to-back game we had either. So, there are 11 remaining b2b sets. Assuming Raycroft gets all of those, that leaves Kari making 71 starts this year, which would put him in Brodeur/Kiprusoff/Lundqvist territory. For comparison, Turco started 52 games last year.

Hate to be a debby downer here, but I think we all know how this will end up. Crawford will ride the "hot hand" too hard and as a result Lehtonen will get injured. This team won't make the playoffs without Lehtonen being healthy all season. He won't be. No playoffs. Hopefully no more Crawford.

Man, I should have just posted this in the Fire Crawford thread.

*I take January 15th in the Lehtonen out-for-season pool.

Kari probable to start #10 in a row, despite the results strongly suggesting he needs a break.

That's super-awesome.

What're you doing, Crawford?

Kari's been playing valiantly, and the Stars are still barely above .500, but come on, give the guy a break already.
