Agreed.

Just a FYI to those out there...sometimes you can find game highlights of our WHL prospects at WHL.ca the day after.

Bulmer seems to be very active offensively in his games. He's scoring goals but also has had really nice passes in highlight where his linemate either doesn't finish or gets stoned. Looks like a Jeff Carter out there to me...again, style-wise, certainly not going to say he is going to be Jeff Carter or a shoe-in NHL player. But size, skating and goal scoring abilities would be great for this team.

Btw, Granlund missed part of the game because he lost some teeth and had to get stitches as a result of missing a hit and hitting the pleksiglass.

Babyface no more! He'll look more appropriate out there with Peltonen now:

It's a mixed bag, but hopefully he's good to go.

E. Haula looks like a real good playmaker, early I know, but still looks like a good start to his season.

Here to say a few things about Brett Bulmer and Colton Jobke again.

Jobke has been a great leader for our team with out captain out: playing physical, working hard and playing in all three zone. For a small guy he has really upped his physical game for this year. He is getting huge minutes from the coaches, well over 30 mins a night. Last year he was really a 5-6D at best but he really picked up his good ending from last year and added to it. Because I have been here before describing his (and Bulmers) play I will just stick to how they are doing. He bring it every night and has been our most consistent player, and arguably our best player. He has dropped the glove a few times and isn't afraid to throw some dirty hits (I thought he should have been suspended for a elbow to an apposing tough guy... knocked him out). He is getting #1 PP time but he really doesn't deserve it imo. His offensive game is limited to passing, which he is probably good at the WHL level. Overall a great start but I see his minutes going down when our captain comes back. 0-2-2 in 8GP. 24PIM including 1 fight.

Bulmer has floated a lot the last while. In the first few games he was trying to do everything himself. He will have a 1/2 dozen shifts a game where he will jump on an opportunity and create a good chance. Other then that he floats around. He will go deep in his own zone and cover okay but he looks to lack work ethic to me. Maybe he has a nagging injury, I don't know for sure. He has showed is ability to drive the net and score tight in goals a few times. He has played a smart game. Massive liability so far. More spirited play needed. 4-1-5 in 9GP. 25PIM including 1 fight.

thanks for the updates! I know the wild saw something in Jobke they liked--we were hunting for "character" this off season and your assessment sounds perfectly in line with that. Bulmer...yeah, i guess we've been warned he's a "project".

Granlund will miss todays game because of that same injury. His 17-year-old brother Markus will take his place on the team for this game.

There has been talks about moving Granlund back to wing, at least amongst HIFK fans.

Can one of our Finnish posters give us an update on a former Wild prospect, Niko Hovinen?

I'm curious. He's a 6' 7", "acrobatic" goalie. Listening to Laughlin on the Power Play and he's talking about large acrobatic goalies.

Well, I'd say he finally started playing according to expectations at the end of last season. He's now solid #1 and perhaps the only reason his team has won a few matches.

The man behind his recent development is former Thrashers goalie Pasi Nurminen, who - according to my understanding - was a big factor in Antti Niemi's development. Here's a video where both Nurminen and Hovinen are practicing.

I don't know if anyone has given you guys a update on Johan Gustafsson so I will give you a short one.

Johan Gustafsson has played 8 games in net for VIK, with a GAA 2,11 (second best in league). Johan also has a SVS% of 92,31 (fourth best in league) but you guys should now that the team he plays for does not have the best of defence compared with the other teams so for a 18 year old to beat Sperrle (Sperrle is a very good goalie with tons of experience) for the nr 1 spot and play like this is truly amazing. Johan Gustafsson in my eyes is the best swedish goalie prospect right now

While that defense isn't the very best, I'd probably still find a place for it among my top 5 defensive corps for Allsvenskan teams. Johan is playing really well though, and should be getting serious consideration for the WJC team alongside Lehner and Fredrik PW.
