You know, JVR gets brought up alot as having been dissapointing thus far, but I have been nothing but impressed with him all season. Most games he looks like one of our best players after Briere, Giroux, Leino and Timonen. The points will come if he continues to play this way, imo.

JVR is in a slump. He's struggling, but he's working hard.

Zherdev is not in a slump. He's making stupid and selfish decisions on the ice so how hard he works doesn't really matter.

JVR has to work through his problems. Zherdev has to correct his.

Yea I think you're right, and if that's the case, this summer was really, really full of fail.

richards and giroux are great together, hell giroux is good with everyone...but he really does click with richards and zherdev (and briere).

carter works well with powe, and he was good enough with JVR to try them again imo.

Bottom line: If Zherdev needs a boost, stick him with giroux...roo/richards always bring out the best in their line mates (powe can do that as well)
Nope, totally disagree. Zherdev needs to be with a guy like Carter, the Selke centerman. Zherdev is a lot more talented of a passer than I originally thought.

Is there any confirmation that he is actually playing on the 4th line wasn't not just practicing there to work on defense? It wouldn't make a lot of sense to put your worst defensive forward on your defensive shut-down line.

The 4th line hasn't been our defensive shut-down line since Holmgren butchered it by strapping Shelley to its ankles.

the JVR manlove is no where near the Carcillo manlove around here.
That said JVR needs to pick it up. He has played well for the most part. Yes i know he has had stretches recently where he has gone invisable. But He has been the victim of some bad luck in recent games from guys not finishing his passes.
He still looks alot stronger with the puck then at any point last season.

Maybe this line change was just for practice....to encourage him to spend less time doing pirouettes and more time fighting for pucks in corners.

If this is for real and he's playing on the 4th line tonight they may as well dump him now. He doesn't seem like the kind of player who responds well to punishment tactics. Carcillo maybe, Zherdev not so much.

I'm not sure wether this is a dum/smart move yet

I'm sure it's a battle of wits between lavi and his players right now.

hopefully Z comes around and finds a line that Lavi keeps him on so he can build some chemistry

Hard to comment as no one watches the practices and is in the locker room to get a sense of how guys think of Zherdev. If I had to guess, he will be on the 4th line but will be on the PP.

Some have him as a franchise player for this team (I guess 3 years from now though, since we keep being told big players take longer to develop) (also wasnt talking about you agrudez)

That being said, he has been bad, and both side of announcers have talked about it. He does the same thing every game. Enters the zone by either, A. trying to use his body but gets shoved off, or B. when he enters the zone, he stops and turns and tries to throw it across the ice. Thats pretty much all he does. Cant really say I have seen him with many scoring chances.

I'm hoping he starts to step his game up though. I know he can, and believe he will...sometime soon.

SO if we stacked our 4th line, then every team would be playing their 1st line agaisnt our 4th line, would this make there 1st line there 4th line now? Or would this make our 4th line our new 1st line? A new maddness could happen here, I can see this working

I have heard alot more praise of JVR than bashing from the Philly broadcast (take that with as big a grain of salt as you need to, though, haha).

I also think he has looked fast, his shot (when he actually takes it) looks hard and he has been making a conscious effort to take the body on players and work in the corners. His board work has been very good all season long and probably would lead to more offense if he didn't have Zherdev on his line hanging in the slot instead of helping him cycle.

Personally, I appreciate that JVR is going through a bit of a transition from the flashy player he was able to be when he was 1000x more talented than everyone else in college and juniors to the NHL power forward role we all envision him making a successful career out of. Sure, a part of me is scared he is getting the Nodl syndrome, but the other part of me says... do I really want ANOTHER big, strong forward who floats through the offensive zone, destroys line chemistry and lets everyone else do his dirty work for him? (yeah, I'm talking about Carter)

I'm assuming Z's conversation with Homer went like this:

Zheredev: Komrade Holmgren, I not get enough ice time
Holmgren: It is what it is. What can you do?
Zheredev:
