This whole situation with Sauer is very unfortunate. A Journeyman is getting time because of a couple hits, who won't get any better, vs a stay at home steadying force that this team needs, being benched and not being allowed to improve.

Does not heighten my opinion of the coach, I can tell you.

We should roll all 4 lines tonight. **** is spread out enough that we should be able to.

I actually think he has played GREAT in that role so far, certainly to the best of his ability. For all you people who are saying that Grachev should be on line two....you are acting kinda crazy. He has not shown much, if anything at the professional level. Who knows if he will even last in the NHL let alone thrive.

Now, im a big grachev supporter, but one game on the fourth line is not going to stunt his development. Let him play there and prust on the second and if were getting blown out, up his minutes and see what he can do.

Ill be there tonight & LGRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Well, I'm not advocating for Grachev to be on line 2 instead of Prust. Grachev sure isn't ready...but he can't really screw things up on the 4th line and maybe getting the callup and some icetime will help get his confidence going. Work with the NHL coaches a little bit, etc.

But for as hard as Prust is playing, it'd be nice for him to get SOME points. I can't say he's doing a great job in the role forced on him when he's still pointless this season.

Like I said in the Boogaard thread, I'd like to see Sauer dressed as a 7th for at least one of these games. Keep him engaged and try to keep the top 4 under under 25 minutes per night on back-to-backs, if not less. A little bit of PK time, step in for Girardi for a shift after a long PP, swap with Eminger for a few shifts, etc. I think everyone benefits.

Makes sense. But Sauer, even in the games he has played was never trusted with any PK time. Del Zotto was given more defensive responsibilities and while that may be because he is a LD, we could use a 7th D more than a Boogaard or a Williams who plays 3 minutes.

Record aside, his performance has been improved, and that was the mandate. It's kind of hard to expect him to be benched after one of his better individual performances of the season.

I dont get why Torts says he likes Eminger physical play. Sauer plays a physical game and uses his size much better than Eminger. Eminger takes himself way out of position to throw a hit.

I dont really care if Eminger plays instead of Gilroy. They are basically the same type of player imo. But sitting Sauer and playing both of them makes no sense.

I hate Eminger. Torts you confuse me, just like why you started Biron last game when you knew we had back to back games this weekend.

Agreed.

I'd prefer to see Sauer play over Eminger, but he's actually played better the past few games. I think some Rangers fans have a tough time giving credit where credit is due when a player who has struggled turns his game around. Can anyone honestly say that Eminger singlehandedly cost the Rangers the game on Wednesday, or thought he was even the biggest liability on the ice? Staal and DZ played awful, Eminger looked fine.

MDZ singlehandedly cost them the game.

I hope Grachev plays well.

But Williams or Byers should've gotten the call instead.

I'm still not sure why Williams was sent back down so quickly. He looked pretty good.

I would argue that Eminger's best performance still provided the team with less than Sauer has in his worst performance (and he hasn't really had a bad performance yet).

What I really don't understand is the whole physicality thing, because Sauer does bring that element. It's less noticeable, sure, because he's a subtle player, but it also doesn't come with the drawbacks that Eminger's physicality does: poor positioning and a higher chance of giving up odd man rushes against.

The unfortunate thing is that Gilroy is getting the starts over Sauer, not Emminger.

I agree, i dont know what Tortorella is watching or what he wants from Sauer. Every game hes played hes been solid for the most part and he fits the system to a TEE. Hes been one of the best at pinching and standing up in the neutral zone and thats exactly what Torts wants from his D.

Plus, theres a whole different feel on that 3rd pair with Sauer in, it just feels more solid defensively. That record speaks for itself IMO.
