I don't follow the Phantoms too close, but I believe he meant Kolanos here? He only played some 25 games last year... Ward was still on the roster at the end of the season I believe. I could very well be wrong though.

With Kaspar it was pretty clear from the day we signed him that if he wouldn't make the big club he'd look for a team in Europe.

RT @PSPhantoms: To clarify a ?, I put in a request to speak to Paddock thru Phantoms. Was told he wouldn't comment on Maroon. I'll try again tonight.

Kolanos was hurt for most of the season. Ward walked out on the team with about 3 weeks left in the season.

send him home to st. louis. they can call him up when backes signs somewhere else this off season.

i thought downie was traded because we needed a dman and because they didn't think he would take the changes he needed to do without a change of scenery. Hard partier rep, deserved or not, he had two camps that his conditioning was questioned.

Also, like Eager and Upshall, Downie wasn't done any favors by the way Stevens/org handled him.

Kaspar was promised that he wasn't going to have to stay in the AHL if he wasn't going to be recalled.

Yeah, this was my thought as well. A lot of folks are saying "it had to happen eventually". Well, no. He might have been traded eventually or not offered a new contract eventually...getting sent home out of the blue did not have to happen eventually. This is ****ed up.

Man, the prospects are thin enough as it is, especially with Holmgren treating early picks like herpes. I can't believer, either, that they couldn't get someone worthy for Maroon if he had to be off the team. Does this franchise have to make everything so difficult for themselves?

Stupid trades?
Ignore goaltending?
No early drafting?

They can't even do a salary dump right.

.

Maroon is a head case (I've known him since he was 6 years old and still play hockey with his 2 older brothers). He's lazy and has already said he was glad the Blues didn't draft him because he didn't want to be the home town kid. I forgot where I read it that the Phantoms were peeved that he went back home this summer to play roller hockey instead of training with the younger guys on the east coast.

We are all very curious to see what really happened.

The kid has potential and tons of talent, his head is in a whole nother world and I don't know if he'll ever be able to bring the two things together.

Meaning Homer CLEARLY should have traded him for anything.

I'm sure he will. Just to be clear, Maroon is still under contract with the Flyers. It's a guaranteed contract. He can be sent home/dismissed from the team but it's not like he can be released or "cut". He still gets paid. I'm sure the Flyers will eventually find a taker for Pat but I doubt the return will be much. I'll be interested to hear just what it was that lead to Pat being dismissed from the team...although it sure seems like the Flyers/Phantoms are being as tight lipped about it as possible...which makes me want to hear the story even more as that makes me think it might actually be a good story! Regardless, hopefully Pat is able to rebound with a change of scenery. It sucks for you guys though as he'll pretty much be a lost asset...unless Holmgren can actually obtain something worthwhile for him but I doubt that.

More stuff from PSPhantoms.

Denis Hamel to the Phantoms, per Paul Holmgren.

Hamel arrives on Sunday on a tryout contract.
PSPhantoms talk with Homer:

Quote:
Hamel, last with Bighamton, to the Phantoms. Maroon's dismissal was his call, not Gilbert's. Decision made Wednesday.
Quote:
Holmgren: Decision on Maroon was based on a pattern, not a specific incident, though he declined to go into more specifics.
Hamel is an AHL vet. He also played for the Flyers in 2006-2007

So what is going to happen with Maroon?

He is under contract with Flyers still correct?

Wouldn't mind adding him to Rockford

This kinda sucks. Obviously he had work to do to mske it in the nhl. But went up to see the Phantoms in Rochester a few weeks ago and although the team sucks he played a nice game and looked pretty good.

What is the market for AHLers who put up 11 goal last year? 3rd, 4th rounder?

With a supposed attitude problem, to boot? Try a 6th or 7th.

Usually teams trade those kind of players for similar round numbers. Maroon was a 6th round, so i can maybe see a 5th based off of how he has played so far.

Hamel has averaged 26 goals the last 3 seasons in the AHL

played for the Flyers during the season of the suck. 7 games. no points, no PIMS.
