York Peppermint Fatty:
(n)
- A rare and corpulent creature. Usually found gorging at local buffets. Also responds to the name Mike York.

He and Kyle Calder were the worst things I remember during that season.

Curious, outside of Peter Stastny and Belfour, I don't think there are any undrafted players that won the Calder Trophy in the past 30 or 40 years has there?

Post-game quotes:

DiPIETRO:
“When you lose three in a row—four in a row now—you’re just looking for something to get sparked up and turn this thing around. [Pronger] didn’t want me going after [Danny] Briere, but I was just looking for somebody except him [Pronger], to be honest.”

CARCILLO:
“It would have been nice to fight [DiPietro]. I’m sure I would be able to handle myself. He said he wanted to go. He asked the ref to let him go, told Pronger he wanted to get some frustration out. It would have been nice to get loose but the linesmen had a grip on me.”

BRIERE:
“When you get embarrassed like that, obviously there’s lot of frustration. They obviously didn’t like that. They had to respond some way, somehow. That was one way to do it, with their fists, finishing their checks, and that’s what happened. I thought the refs did a pretty good job of controlling the game. It’s going to happen, games like that when one team goes up quite a bit on the other one.”

LAVIOLETTE (re: Bobrovsky):
“He’s been sharp - I’ve said that from Day One. He’s had really good days for us. I thought he played terrific [Friday in Pittsburgh]. We wanted to get him back in there and see him in a back-to-back situation and he responded really well. He was quick again. There were times where there wasn’t a lot going on and all of a sudden, he had to make not just a save, but a really good save. He’s got the quickness to his game with his legs down low.”

That was so funny, DiPietro was raging after Briere, Pronger grabs him, DP settles down, Pronger lets go, DP goes after Carcillo.

I don't blame DP at all, but it was funny at the same time.

We need a shot of Pronger in DiPietro's face because they showed it in the arena and it was hilarious. Pronger was just laughing at him.

Kelly Chase about goalie Garth Snow (after a game):
Quote:
"He's a yapper. He's always stabbing you with his stick. He wants to be a tough guy. I don't take that stuff from defensemen. I don't take it from the tough guys. I'm certainly not going to take it from a goalie. I'm going to knock him on his can."

Lavy's comment about Bobrovsky makes it sound like he is actually quite comfortable with him as the #1 or #1A-B, when Leighton returns.

the best part about the DP/Prongs episode, is that DP says something in his ear, and Pronger just lets go and mouths something like "ok fine. go for it"

DiPietro had to get involved because the Islanders only had 3 skaters on the ice and we had all 5.

Pronger with DP was too funny. Can't say I blame Ricky for backing down from Pronger. He was willing to go with Carcillo and he gets cudos for that.

Briere gets a crosschecking major at the end there. Is it impossible to think that he misses a few games due to suspension?

He probably will. But I still think we'll pull it out those next couple games without him.

I think he will. Stick to the noggin is a big no-no. Even in the heat of the moment, you're still responsible for your stick.

I missed the game but that was my thought exactly. Gillies pulled his crap I wanted the Flyers to score and score again. embarrass them.
I dont condone what Briere did however. Stupid and very selfish.

Looks like I've missed one hell of a ****storm after I left for work. I cut out before Nödl's goal, which is a shame since he is my countryman. Hope he's ok too and can play next game. I'll probably have to watch the 3rd period later.

So far I've only seen a few snippets, Briere in particular. He's probably going to be suspended for that one and I would hand him one if I was in charge of it. I like Briere as a scorer and he's not doing this stuff often, but he can erupt pretty suddenly and when he does he gets really nasty with the stick. Something similar happened last year when he crosschecked some Avalanche player in the throat and got two games. And we all remember when he was still in Buffalo and speared Ovechkin in the nuts in retaliation for Ovi boarding him in an earlier game.

I really wish he wouldn't do this kind of stuff.

Oh yeah, and another inside joke/term on these boards is "getting biron'd" which is when a free agent demands too high of a salary for an extension which also no other team was willing to pay, and in the end he had to settle for far less money.

This is named after Martin Biron, who reportedly wanted more than 4 million dollars in the 08-09 offseason. The Flyers walked away and Biron did not get signed until about a month into free agency, settling for 1.4 million with the Islanders. More recent examples could be Nabokov, who signed in the KHL after no NHL team wanted to pay him what he wanted, and Marty Turco, who signed for 1.3 million in Chicago after being a 5.7 million cap hit goaltender in Dallas, who walked away from extending him.

Just got done watching the game. Damn. Great game by the boys. Now if they could do that against teams that don't totally suck.

in re: the penalty shot.
I had no idea that a guy with the puck who is draped by one defender with another within a stride or two (considering Richie a defender in that situation) is considered to be on a breakaway. Good to know.

in re: the conundrum at the end.
What Briere did was pretty dirty, and I wouldn't be surprised to see 2-5 games for him (probably more like 2). But honestly, I was standing and cheering (in my living room). Nielsen basically called him a ***** at the faceoff dot, and challenged him (being about 2X as big as Briere). Then, Chris Pronger justified my love for the man when he not only said to DP, "Fine. You wanna go with someone? Go.", and then practically escorted him towards Carcillo. That had me laughing for a good 5 minutes.

Good Hockey night for me. Flyers win 6-1. Winterhawks win 6-1. Isles Prospect Nino Niedersomething gets his first goal in his second game since coming back. **** yeah!!

edit: In my mind Bob got a shutout tonight since that penalty shot was total shyte.

edit #2: Bob.
