Why did I just get the mental image of briere sitting on the bench eating ice cream with stevens patting him on the head... and upshall in the box looking angry.

Briere is the team's official Turkey carver this year...

Briere has had to defend himself to survive, and I'm good with that, but the current incident (1 game is my guess) masks the fact that both he, Hartnell and Powe have been taking a huge number of bad penalties lately.

Some of Briere's are the result of just not being big enough to defend his position down low, but most others are just selfish.

Pure fantasy. Upshall would be in the box turned around looking at the crowd trying to spot chicks and get digits. The game or his role in it is of no interest to him.

It's a chronic problem, and Hartnell is right there with Briere. Over the past few years this team has been far too willing to put their stick into a guy and they've gotten busted for a LOT of unnecessary hooking, etc. calls.

You can, but picking on any one player when this entire team for 3+ years now has had a chronic problem avoiding stick penalties is *ing idiot talk... and Briere is the prime culprit.

As noted, Briere's PIM totals are ridiculous given the fact that he doesn't fight, and he doesn't really take "physical" penalties. If he's in the box, it's almost always because he hooked, tripped, or high sticked someone.

RT @NHLFlyers: GM Paul Holmgren confirms that Danny Briere has received a 3 game suspension from the NHL... Details to follow shortly.

3 games means that he doesn't get to play the Islanders next Saturday.

Damn, I was hoping it would only be two so he could be back for the Isle's game Saturday.

I figured the league office would do something like this.

They don't want another episode.

The unknown commodity is the language used in prior encounters between the player and the League. He has a history with warnings and suspensions including his Buffalo days and since then. If the League was adamant in their previous talks then they have that component to necessitate a suspension. If they said "Watch this stick or else" then they used it to their advantage in this situation.

Fair suspension.

Still think the islanders are vaginas though. I hope we dominate them again on saturday

Still think it's ridiculous that Briere gets 3 games for this and Hunter doesn't even get a verbal warning for his blindside hit...

Two games. He also got two for (stick) an incident in a Buffalo-Boston game involving Brian Leetch.

Edit: (corrected Leetch's team).

The inconsitency with suspensions is ridiculous. 3 games for shoving a guy in the side of the helmet with no harm done?

That hit was clean.

Unfortunately for Meszaros the glass whipped into his head.

I dont think Hunter should be suspended. It was just an awkward hit, 5 and a game was enough

If Briere didn't get a larger suspension then last year it would be inconsistent. I don't want Briere pulling a Boulerice one day if he thinks he can get away with dangerous stick play.
